Arizona Eyes Special License Plate for Tea Party
Updated: Thursday, 03 Mar 2011, 4:37 PM MST
PHOENIX - A bill advancing in the Arizona Legislature would give Tea Party supporters their own license plate but without taxpayers-provided startup costs that supporters wanted.
But some of the proceeds of eventual sales of the "Don't Tread On Me" special plate would still go into a fund that a state committee would use to promote Tea Party principles.
The Republican-led Senate gave the bill preliminary approval Thursday after deleting a provision to have the state highway fund front $32,000 of startup costs after critics objected.
That leaves supporters of the special plate having to raise the $32,000 to pay for creating the plate.
Opponents said the plate inappropriately promotes a specific political movement. Supporters say it's way to stand up for constitutional principles.

Very cool. Just one thing. I suggest if you get one of these plates you take your comprehensive coverage to a zero deductible, so you’ll be fully covered when your car gets keyed.
Lots of union types with pro-union bumper stickers on their vehicles in Pocatello. I figure that's punishment enough. Right up there with an Obama sticker.
The “Key My Car State”
...or perhaps it is the NRA sticker! Funnily enough, I drove around with this on my car for about a year or so:
What I got out of it was a fifty-something year old lady with gray hair and a bun flipping me the bird...let me tell you, I laughed so frikken hard I nearly ran off the road!
If they offered a Tea Party plate, I would get one in a minute. If my car gets keyed, I would just get some bumper stickers made up that say THIS VANDALISM WAS DONE BY AN UNHINGED LIBERAL---> and put them near the damage with the arrow pointing towards it. Screw them.
But that is just me. I completely understand your point of view.
Palin 2012 stickers have been on both of my vehicles for two years now. No problems so far - except for maybe a few ticked off drivers behind me who promptly pass.
This car was in the parking lot where I work...I wanted to leave a note saying they were missing the "Coexist" and the "It'll be a great day when education gets all the money it wants and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy bombers" bumper stickers.
I like to pull directly in front of them on the highway and force them to look at my NRA stickers...
There’s no mention of Obama on there? WTF ?
I think it was pre-Obama.
As if I can even remember what that was like. Curse that Maxist SOB.
Then it shoulda had Gore or Kerry, LOL
Same here in Hollywood. I’m still looking for the FUBO sticker with the O chevron.
LOL! Okay, now...that’s funny! An “Alternative Fuel” plate! (That’s the car on the side of the road, out of fuel or broken down!)
You got that right. Had my brand new pick up keyed because I had a GWB sticker in the window. 1200 hundred dollars damage.
However since it was vandalism,my insurance picked up the tab. I had to pay for a rental car while mine spent a week in shop getting painted.
freedom of speech only applies to the left I guess.
My bumper stickers: "Got Ammo?", "I'm the NRA and I vote" and "Those who beat their guns into plows will work for those who don't". My ham license plate is more valuable to me than a Tea Party statement. The ham plates appear on my F150 and Harley Roadster now. The picture is from Thanksgiving 2001.
During the last Bush campaign I mentioned to a liberal acquaintance sporting a Kerry sticker on his car that I was afraid to fly a Bush sticker due to vandalism. His reply was, “Good”.
Liberals are totalitarians at heart.
What is a Ham license plate? Is it what we call a vanity plate here in my liberal state?
