New York Plans Gun Registration

First they came for our bicycles.

Now they’ve come for our guns.

One day after word leaked of a New York State plan to require license plates and annual fees for bicycles, information has gotten out about pending legislation that would register and attach a fee to every firearm in the state.

Already one of the most anti-gun states in the country, New York’s move would all but nullify the Second Amendment.

At issue is Senate Bill 2994, which is linked in its entirety at the bottom of this column. It would require every gun owner in the state to make a list of their firearms, to include make, description and serial number, and file that list with the county clerk.

Further, gun owners would have to specify where in their homes each of their firearms were stored when not in use.

If the people of the state of NY allow this to happen, then they deserve it.

Post-Heller and McDonald, all this stuff really does need to get shaken out through the legal process.

Fact is that before Heller and McDonald, New York state could have passed legislation like this anyway. Yet, now that the 2nd Amendment is recognized as an individual Constitutional right incorporated to some degree under the 14th Amendment, there ought to be lots of interested parties who've got nothing at all to do with guns who will be compelled to join the RKBA side in challenging legislatures' proposals to fees and taxes on rights. So many entities have a lot to lose.

Let New York propose and pass laws like these, and let them fail in court. Let them push the issue all the way to the US Supreme Court. We'll see who prevails.

specify where in their homes each of their firearms were stored when not in use.

You forgot to add: owner must also post when he plans on being out of the home and the combination to any gun safe, along with directions to the home for interested parties

The idiot sheeple in New York City and some of the other larger cities will push for this. Just recently the leftist Dem AG of Illinois issued an opinion that the names of gun-owners should be made public.

Judge Napolitano on FOX news this morning pretty much devastated her opinion, but a State Court in Illinois will be deciding.

Make no mistake about it, we are the victims of a Kulturkampf by the leftist Bolsheviks in America. An informed and armed electorate is their worst nightmare and want to destroy that concept so they institute a statist government with no resistance.

Dear Lord! .... NY: people leaving because of the
taxes and the government; more will
surely move over a border if this insanity
ever passes.

Can we, as Freepers and representitives of
Conservative America, designate the states
we want and encourage like-minded people
to move there? I think it could work!

Well... back to my room to take the rest of my meds....
;)

The People of New York may very well have nothing to say about it. Having lived in California, I know first hand that the majority of the folks there are Not hard left. It’s the crooked Dem Party Machinery running Frisco, LA and San Diego who continually run the state into the ground regardless of what the folks outside those cities want.

What they got for voting Against the machine in one election a decade ago in San Francisco, was next day discovery of ballot boxes floating in the bay.

Look at what’s going on in IL now. They want to publish the list of gun owners and what they have registered.

Fight gun registration.

While a laudable sentiment its misguided. Youre doing your state a tremendous disservice by inviting such people in. I think they must be forced to stay in the cesspool they created. They wanted this sort of thing so badly now let them enjoy the fruits of the labor. What really happens is they ruin your state just like the one they’re escaping. They never realize it was their doing which caused the problems, its always someone else.

And, I'm afraid that I'd just have to file that under "no effing way in Cowboy Hell!"

NY should split into 2 states NY and NNY (aka ‘Upstate’) - everyone east of the Hudson including *all* of Albany area can get their blue state, NYC style laws and taxes. Everyone west of the Hudson gets real constitutional laws and freedom we deserve.

The rest of the state has to pay so much (financially and freedoms) because what goes on ‘down state’

If this passes, just like good citizens, we all need to register “guns” . In fact I think I might get a couple hundred of the registration forms and register all kinds of guns, under random addresses, random serial numbers etc. If a few thousand people did likewise, the registration database would quickly be rendered useless.
