Suspected Tucson gunman Jared Loughner has been indicted on 46 new charges, including the murders of a federal judge and an aide to congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
The new indictment, by a federal grand jury in Arizona, is the first step in a formal Department of Justice process to decide whether to seek the death penalty against the 22-year-old.

“but that doesnt stop the state or the Feds from charging him with multiple capital offenses”
Of course! I am glad they are increasing the number of charges against him, mainly because it will ensure that he will get nailed and likely get the penalty. I am simply pointing out that to suggest that somehting ‘might’ happen is strictly procedural.
Insanity abounds
Just more charges to drag this out for a couple of dozen years. Giving Taxpayer funded defense attorneys more grounds for appeals.
Get on with the trial and stick the needle in his arm.
NOOOOOOOOOO, need to make as much political hay out of this as possible. Watch.
That's sad.
It should read "...will face death penalty."
This is both good and desirable. What is frustrating is the absurd amount of time all this is taking. This scum will be able to enjoy the spectacle he has crafted for years yet to come then likely end up a celebrity like Manson.

JUST IN TIME? GOOD FOR FT HOOD MURDERER AND AIRMEN MURDERER?
Social justice will not work for poor Jared, he’s white, but them again his mother is a rat and the congresswomen he shot was a (respectfully) democrate.
Could face the death penalty? Huh? There were, what, a couple of hundred witnesses that saw him do it?

The issue will be his mental competence. I think he will end up like Sirhan Sirhan, or Hinckley, a very expensive and permanent resident of some federal institution.

I am sure they only say it to ensure that Jared, even though blatantly guilty, is given full due process. They say if, I am sure, to maintain the proper procedure for the trial. They could say, will, but that would presume he is guilty until proven innocent, which would be a violation of his constitutional rights.
Yes, under the compassionate care of this wonderful nurse.
I would like to see them bring back the electric chair for this monster.
In Allentown, Pa, there are radio spots advertising Asner's upcoming "performance" of a dramatic reading that imitates FDR. What a puke show that will be.
Yes, that would be nice.
