Interior appeals oil drilling ruling ^ | 3/4/11 | DAN BERMAN & DARREN GOODE

The Obama administration late Friday appealed a judge's orders directing the Interior Department to act on several Gulf of Mexico deepwater drilling permits.

The appeal is the latest salvo in the ongoing fight over the speed with which Interior is – or isn't – letting oil drillers get back to work after last year's BP oil spill.

Gulf state lawmakers and the oil industry have accused the department of enacting a "de facto" moratorium against new drilling, while Interior says it needs to ensure safety and environmental protections are in place.

Friday's appeal challenges rulings by Judge Martin Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, who on Feb. 17 gave Interior 30 days to make a verdict on five pending deepwater drilling permits applications. He later added two additional permits to that order.

This is the Executive equivalent of the legislators leaving their state to prevent any legislation urged by the opposition. Just fail to act and that winds up as policy. The majority wants “x” to happen. The Administration does not want x to happen. By doing nothing the Administration achieves its objective to the consternation of the majority. It is a mortal sin against republican governance.

Another effort to drag this out and keep a defacto moratorium in place. Between the Interior Department and EPA, the Obama Administration is at war with the US. Every step is to attack domestic energy and make us more dependent on foreign sources. Every step is to tie us ever more tightly in a web of Federal laws and Regulations.

I don’t think the Dem’s really yet grasp just how badly they are going to be crushed in 2012. I’m no longer certain that Republicans can find a way to lose.

I was reading an article about the psychological effect of gas prices on the economy - it’s really profound. You see high gas prices 15 times on the way to the mall, even if you don’t buy any gas - does that give you a great incentive to empty your wallet shopping?

Then, you come home disappointed and read an article like this. MASSIVE dissonance. You reduce it by voting for people who will help to reduce the dissonance.

P.S. The disgusting Edwards -—>(D)<-— thing will be exploding in that time frame.

States Rights vs. Imperial Federalism. Unfortunately that war was lost long ago.

With all the defunding the Republicans seem to be mastering quite well at this point, couldn't the House simply refuse to fund DOJ and EPA challenges to states that want to engage in off-shore drilling, or Alaskans and North Dakotans that want to take charge of their states and its resources?

Let states build their own Thorium mini-reactors by pulling the $ out from EPA to enforce its regulations. States just tell EPA to stick their licensing regs up their butts. See how easy?

If the DOJ can't fund its court cases, it will have no cases to pursue. If the EPA can't fund its enforcement mechanisms it is powerless.

The Executive Branch won't have its DOJ enforce DOMA? Defund their ability to enforce any "civil rights" prosecutions until they do.

Defund DOJ's ability to mount a defense of ObamaCare.

Power of the purse is huge.

Besides the Exxon Valdez and the BP incident last year, we haven’t had any major oil-related disasters. Same with nuclear power besides Three Mile Island. And to my knowledge none of the Navy ships or subs that are nuclear powered have blown up.

Simply put this is not about the safety of the rigs or plants. They are safe. It as about the Obama regime crippling the US with his pipe dream of wind and solar power to supposedly power millions of electric cars and high-speed rail systems.

None of these will work. In my area one of the local Universities was bragging about their new solar panel install on one building. Best case scenario was something along the lines 50-60KW from solar. Some digging revealed the building has a 750 KW emergency standby diesel generator for critical loads only. That speaks for itself.

I’m probably pig-ignorant and don’t know what I’m talking about, but here it goes, feel free to disabuse me of my opinion.

It seems blatently obvious to me that most of our congressmen, house and senate alike, are in the pocket of OPEC. Not Big Oil, necessarily, but OPEC. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for the US to not be developing its own resources, yet, the EPA refuses to allow it. OPEC, I would guess, is being manipulated by either the Communists or some other group, because while the idea of keeping the US energy dependent (what was the Department of Energy’s manadate again?) benefits them, if the US economy is harmed, ultimately they will lose money. Strategically, keeping the US from developing its own oil weakens the US in event of war. The strategic assessment of what happened in 2008 would indicate the recent run up in oil prices will be funding, most likely, the move from the dollar as the reserve currency and the subsequent collapse of the US economy.

So, please feel free to disabuse me of the notion that, in fact, the US government, by way of the Legislature and Bureaucracy, is actively participating in harming the citizens of the US, and are participating in a treason against its People, and all that such action by the government implies for its People.

Please diabuse me, for if what I am suggesting is true, it is long past due for a march on Washington, to throw the bums out. Obama would approve, as he suggested the same for Mubarak and the President of Honduras.
