Posted on 03/05/2011 12:05:59 PM PST by bkopto
Watch in disbelief as two reporters for the Chicago Tribune take a walk on the wild side, participating in a deer hunt. Laugh in hilarity as Ms Brotman suffer "scope bite". Weep tears for the hunters who took these two out in the field. The video clip is prefaced by, "The following video contains scenes of animal butchering. Discretion is advised for younger or more sensitive viewers."

I’ll bet they all eat hamburgers. Cows have little chance of escape.
Maybe they should be called scope dopes!
The video portrays hunting in a positive light. Thanks for posting.
Not too bad, especially coming out of Chicago.
Scope bite drama.
Great Video. However, you did not watch in disbelief nor did I laugh in hilarity.
This morning Wife and I had coffee with a another couple who live here.
She’d shot a semi-auto pistol yesterday and had gotten her thumb in the way of the recoil.
They’d wrapped it up pretty well. Still throbbing and bloddied.
Starts off pretty corny, but at the end one of the reporterettes actually was butchering the deer and enjoying venison steaks! Quite impressive, even if they do talk in NPR-style hushed tones and carry on with a lot of lib Gobbledygook / PC-blather. Maybe after a year or two of hunting, they’d even begin to talk like regular folk
Stoopid, but not guilty!
That little rant aside and you are off to bigger rants!!!!!!!!!!!
--sounds to me like there should have been better instruction in the picture somewhere--
All things considered, this was a very fair piece, presented well. The two participants, urban women, probably “progressive” politically, were about as green as they could be about hunting, firearms, and the outdoors. But they gave the entire experience a fair shake, and didn’t present any neurotic, negative conclusions.
Not guns but found this and all I can say is WOW!
That shoulder thing is going to go up.
Well, I say good for them, well done. Yeah one of them especially was a squemish liberal, but hey, give them credit for getting out of their comfort zone and make an effort to understand guns and hunting. I hope there are many more liberals who follow the lead of these ladies. If that were the case I bet we’d have a lot fewer call from liberals to tear down the Second Amendmet.
Leftist figure out that we are the true "environmentalist"
The only shame I see in the video is on the guy who shot the yearling. I swear it was so small it probably still had its spots. A little patience next time. What a waste of a good deer tag.

Who taught her to use a long since abandoned (30+ years) revolver hold on a semi-auto?
“as green as they could be about hunting, firearms, and the outdoors”
Not if they ate Bambi..
I agree. They were surprised about the emphasis on safety.
My only hope is that these two bimbos actually got a taste of real deer hunting in the process. And no, deer “hunting” is not the same as deer “killing” or (ahem) field dressing or meat preparation.
At some point, sitting quietly against a tree and trying hard to “tune in” to the forest, the magic of deer hunting sinks in. Something buried deep in your DNA starts to awaken. You begin to hear and smell and see what is really around you. The direction of the breeze is important. You belong there.
The “hunting” part of deer hunting is pure magic. I can’t find a better word for it.
Hopefully these ladies felt just a few moments of the magic. If so, they’ll be back for more.
BRAVO for these ladies! Perhaps if more of their friends actually spent some time in the great outdoors with hunters/shooters there would be far far less disinformation about hunters/shooters, the 2nd Amendment, and our true concern for the environment.
Anybody familiar with Illinois gun laws? I know you have to have a FOID card to purchase firearms and ammunition. But, how about use? I assume these gals didn’t buy the guns and ammo they are shown using, but what about loaning them for hunting, etc?
Thanks for posting this. It was overall very positive for hunting. Maybe we can bring libs around to our way of thinking through the ethics of hunted meat and the independence that a gun provides. Whatever it takes.
FIREARM OWNERS' ID CARD (issued by Illinois State Police) Regardless of who owns the gun, anyone who has a firearm or firearm ammunition in their possession must have in their possession a valid (F.O.I.D.) Card unless (a) A licensed nonresident hunting in Illinois, or (b) Under 21 and under the immediate control of a parent, guardian, or responsible adult who has in their possession a valid F.O.I.D. Card. Only one supervisory adult is required to have a F.O.I.D. Card in their possession, if all hunters under 21 in the party without a F.O.I.D. Card remain under the direct supervision of the supervisory adult possessing the F.O.I.D. Card.
I think that both of the reporter-ettes celebrated their 21st a while ago.
Got my wife one of those new sporty hammerless model .38.
One less thing to get in the way.
Mrs. Prince of Space
Having done a lot of archery myself I’d bet good money I could never do that even in my prime.
I have nothing against women in the woods with rifles. But inexperienced, clueless idiots like these two are what make the woods as dangerous as the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. More than once I have had bullets whiz past me from idiots. It is a great temptation to return fire, however, I saved that for Iraq.

Great gun! The original point-and-click interface. It eliminates the erroneous act of cocking a revolver before shooting.
I’m just a fan of that old addage, “if it can go wrong it will”.
Get rid of one more thing to go wrong or get in the way.
Me, I like my Kimber.
Everyone is a clueless idiot the first time. I thought the piece was very positive and it’s good when women who are alledged to be liberals start to be aware of the difference between hunting and wanton killing of defensless animals. These two would be keepers in my book, and not just for their looks. By the way, I also spent many years in the military, also went to Iraq, and Vietnam, and I find it much more pleasant that these two were converted to our side rather than being insulted and left thinking all that junk about blood lust killing and conservatives is true. But that’s just my opinion.
For shooting, no so good.
Isn’t Brotman a fairly infamous name in Chicago?
These ladies got more training than most of the rednecks in NWFL!
Maybe they should be called scope dopes!
My brother-in-law (Now deceased) got scope bite years ago. Some Chinese or North Korean was popping rounds at them while at the Chosen Resevoir, so he borrowed another soldier’s scoped rifle, who wasn’t using it, and popped a cap on target. All he saw was stars, and he never got too close to the scope again.
I don’t know if he hit his target or not, but he made up for it later.
I think they deserve a pat on the back for going out there and finding out the truth about guns and hunting.
ML/NJ (never killed anything except some little metal ducks at Coney Island)
It’s obvious you didn’t watch their video.
The two city gals (probably liberals) made a good go of it and hunters got some good PR.
I watched the video
