(CNN) -- A sailor is accusing the Navy of baselessly trying to discharge him for "unprofessional conduct" in an effort to get around the recent "don't ask, don't tell" repeal, after being found asleep in the same bed with another male sailor.

Sailor #2: [ entering ] Captain, I encouraged this fight - punish me! Make me wear nipple-pinching clothespins, sir!

I believe the responsibility for this goes clear to the top. Our CIC needs to step down for dereliction of duty, as evidenced by failure to maintain orderly quartering and morale among the enlisted under his command.

All the law says is you can’t be discriminated on account of your sexual orientation.

It does not say you can use it an excuse to flout military discipline or to commit sodomy and other offenses against the Uniform Code Of Military Justice.

I think when Congress voted to end DADT, I think most Americans think gays don’t deserve to be persecuted or discriminated against but I also think they don’t want them given special privileges in our military service.

We Americans believe in equal treatment under the law and that doesn’t change with the repeal of DADT. It just brings things into the open. Gays now have no grounds to complain they are being treated differently from other service people. The same rules apply to them that should apply to straight people.

The same rule would apply if the sailor was caught sleeping with a woman. In my opinion, the Navy is just even handedly enforcing the law.

Your post is correct.

As a former Nuke sub sailor, I learned quickly that the Navy had many ways to get rid of those whom they thought were not good for the Navy. Once you sign on that dotted line, you better pay close attention to the rules, because if you don’t, they will come back to hurt you.

Now, whether this guy is a homosexual or not, it’s obvious his roomate was bothered by him and his actions and he did violate the rule on professionalism in the barracks, so punishment is warranted. By PO Jones fighting this, it won’t go well for him, even if he “wins”. The Navy aint fair, but then neither is life.

My son is currently in the Army and I asked him about what he thought about the removal of DADT and he said something along the lines of “if they think you are gay, they’ll crush you until you quit for some other reason.” Now that’s was his opinion, not official Army policy, but it follows what I saw when I was in the Navy back in the 80’s.
