They marched on Washington to reclaim civil rights.
They complained of voter intimidation at the polls.
They called for ethnic studies programs to promote racial pride.
They are, some say, the new face of racial oppression in this nation -- and their faces are white.
"We went from being a privileged group to all of a sudden becoming whites, the new victims,'' says Charles Gallagher, a sociologist at La Salle University in Pennsylvania who researches white racial attitudes and was baffled to find that whites see themselves as a minority.
"You have this perception out there that whites are no longer in control or the majority. Whites are the new minority group."
Call it racial jujitsu: A growing number of white Americans are acting like a racially oppressed majority. They are adopting the language and protest tactics of an embattled minority group, scholars and commentators say. They point to these signs of racial anxiety:
• A recent Public Religion Research Institute poll found 44% of Americans surveyed identify discrimination against whites as being just as big as bigotry aimed at blacks and other minorities. The poll found 61% of those identifying with the Tea Party held that view, as did 56% of Republicans and 57% of white evangelicals.

Gallagher referring to Whites as "privileged", used in this manner so often on the left, is the equivalent of calling a family privileged for living in a home built by the father's own hands.

Rule of thumb: distrust anything coming from CNN. There’s always an agenda, and it’s never a conservative one. The article cites Morris Dees’ hate group a couple of times as the authority on which other groups are “hate groups.”

The law now favors certain classes over others.

I don’t think whites are oppressed, but it’s not “OK” to be white. If you are caucasian, there is, according to society, NOTHING to be proud of in your heritage. Forget all of the liberty and technology and progress made in the past by people with pinkish skin. You must be ashamed and you must give preferential treatment to those with darker hues.
It’s kind of stupid. I like the whole colorblind idea far better than all this Racial Pride, like Sotomayor and her “wise Latina,” as if her heritage had anything to do with her wisdom. Let’s forget about race. The 2010 census had about 50 different combinations of races, and it’s getting ridiculously out of hand.
Race? HUMAN. Period.
Yes, Whites are victims of racial oppression. We will soon be a minority - indeed, we are a minority in various areas.
Note well that Whites are victims of hate crimes, but the perps are not charged under the hate crime provisions. Rather, they are subject to lesser charges.
It also gives a fair treatment of Peter Brimelow for a bit of balance though.
This is about as balanced an article on this subject as you'll get in the MSM. Sometimes you take what you can get and hope the goalposts move just that little bit.
I missed this show. Did it come on right after the last installment of “Black in America” where I was told the reason I own a house is because my family is white and passed their wealth down to me. I found that premise interesting since Mom still lives in her house, I am paying a mortgage on mine, and my brother, who wasn’t first born, is worth more than both of us put together.

That might mean they see an equal *lack* of discrimination against whites. I think the author may be reaching here.

It's human nature. To think that human beings won't sort themselves by genetic lineages and traits as they have been doing for all of recorded history is the most utopian idea ever to come out of liberalism.
Is “gringo” a racial slur?
You might have to wait a couple centuries for that idea to take hold. What to do until then? Keep in mind the average melanin content of the population continues to climb with each passing year, which is fine except that progressive continually take advantage of it and foment racial discord at ever turn. I'd say a more defensive attitude in in order.
