As the calls for clemency for Jonathan Pollard continue to intensify, Henry A. Kissinger, an elder statesman, well-respected diplomat, and experienced member of the United States intelligence community, has become the latest American governmental leader to issue a public call for Pollards release. Pollard has spent more than 25 years languishing in a federal prison for passing classified information to Israel, an ally of the United States.
Kissinger, who served as United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, sent a letter to President Obama requesting that he commute Pollards sentence to time served (the full text of the letter appears below and a copy is attached).
Like former Congressman Lee Hamilton, who also recently called on the President to grant clemency to Jonathan Pollard, Kissinger has served as a member of the Presidents Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, which is a nonpartisan and independent body of the Intelligence Community that has full access to the complete range of intelligence-related information. Kissinger was a member of the Presidents Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board at the time of Pollards sentencing.

If Kissinger is really one speaking for the Bilderbergers' then Obama is being given his orders. Predictions on when Pollard is released? One week? Two?
Actually, I’ve been saying the Obama owes Madoff an apology and a job over at Treasury.
Pollard should have been shot, as ALL spies should be.
I’ll vote for “whenever the next big dominating news event happens”.
Will Geithner teach Madoff how to use Turbo-Tax?
He did it for money. They always say he passed it on to an ally. It does not matter. Another ******** govt worker who takes a job where you are required to keep secrets and he gave em up. Don’t take the job if you cannot do what is required.
Throw Kissinger in jail
Throw Kissinger in jail
Obama pardon someone who helped Israel?
It is to laugh...
Throw Kissinger in jail
Pollard can rot, Henry.
exactly. It’s not Pollard’s choice who gets our nation’s classified info.
Colonel, USAFR
The hell with Pollard. He was a traitor and traitors should be shot.
What did Israel do with the intelligence...sell it to the Chinese?
A few quotes from Henry K back in the day:
“The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer
“There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.”...Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac”
The nice thing about being a celebrity is that when you bore people, they think it’s their fault.
The betrayer of South Vietnam and Taiwan can burn in hell along with that traitor Pollard.
Pollard should get a week in the snake pit for asking.
I free Jon Pollard every morning. And not only do I not work for the Bureau of Prisons, I’ve never been to North Carolina in my life.
I would’ve settled for hanging.
It all comes to the same thing.
No, to the Russians.
Only after they hang Bradley Manning for espionage.
The less said about the traitor Pollard, the better for Israel.
Never. Die in prison scum.
Israel tries to get intel we have about their Muslim neighbors and aren't sharing with Israel. The spying is for a good purpose, but it's still spying, period. I we didn't want Israel to have the intel, it was for a good reason (and it's not like Israel never hid intel from us).
“Free” should read “Fry.”
“What did Israel do with the intelligence...sell it to the Chinese?”
As Buchal said, “No, to the Russians.”
I think to open up immigration of Russian Jews to Israel. So, maybe to Israel, a noble effort. But to us? Not noble at all!
I’m not for Pollard’s release. But I’m curious; Does anybody know what information he compromised / what it was? (in general, not to leak secrets of course).
I just don’t know any details about this guy.
Plus:
Apart from Woolsey, most other intelligence officials have been adamantly opposed to the release of Pollard, a Navy intelligence analyst who provided thousands of highly classified documents to his Israeli handlers. Former CIA Director George Tenet reportedly threatened to quit when the Clinton administration considered it.
From here: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/spy-talk/2011/03/kissinger_release_israeli_spy.html
So most of the intelligence community is against it, too.
I'm going to go with "no", unless there is something I'm missing.
He stole voluminous amounts of highly classified material from WITHIN an American intelligence agency. The case was cut and dried. He should have been executed.
The only think you’re missing is that Kissinger has gone public with it. If, he is still near the top of the policy food chain than it might be something to pay attention to.
Could be just some bait to push Israel into doing something stupid. IMHO, this is not an accident.
It's already a done deal. Need bets on what day & time.
Slip a 9mm behind his year and send the body home.
SOB can rot.
Or hang.
Either one is good.
Pollard compromised the Agency’s RASIN manual. He thought it was only going to Israel, a heinous act of treason all by itself, but one of the Israeli recipients passed it on. The manual ended up on the internet. At the time, it was a security disaster. Now, most of the information has perished, but it gave away our state-of-the-art knowledge of our enemies’ signals. Ask any current or former Agency employee if this guy should be released. You will get a resounding “NO!”
why didn’t Reagan pardon him? George H.W. Bush? George W. Bush?
Thanks. I certainly remember the Walker’s compromising our Navy.
And on the flip side, I’m amazed Israel let Vanunu loose, though I guess they keep him on a short lease; being that the cat is out of the bag on Dimona.
Probably unintended accidental advertising came out of it that has held some muzzie nations at bay.
For now.
Until Iran gets their nuclear weapons.
Pollard caused the most damage over every other spy. Who the hell is pulling this string?
More damage than Aldrich Ames? More damage than the Chinese scientists that Clinton let go who passed on nuke secrets to the Chicoms?
I say no! The law must apply equally to all. There must be a reason why George W. Bush, the greatest friend in the WH Israel ever had, did not pardon . The Israeli gov’t isn’t too keen on pardon either. I would be interested in knowing the reason.
If Obama does pardon this convicted traitor, it will be because he thinks it will help him recapture the Jewish vote, which he has somewhat lost.
All this Kissinger/Bilderburger (I’ll have mine well done on a toasted roll, please) is absurd. More kook stuff? We need facts not wacko conspiracy theories!
Yes, he was the worst. I can’t tell you why but he was the worst.
Worse than Aldrich Ames who single handedly shut down the CIA's "eyes and ears". In 1985 the names of every "human asset" that the U.S. had working for it in the USSR.
He sold the KGB the names of twenty-five "sources." These twenty-four men and one woman, all Russians, were immediately arrested and ten were sentenced to what the KGB euphemistically referred to as vyshaya mera (the highest measure of punishment). The condemned person was taken into a room, made to kneel, then shot in the back of the head with a large caliber handgun so his face would be made unrecognizable. He compromised every CIA operative in the Soviet Union. -
So, you are telling me that Pollard was worse than that?
Ames, Walker, it does not matter who you name.
Matter of fact, there is speculation that Pollard was the one who took the fall for Ames.
The idea that you offer no explanation, and then state blythely that no matter who one can name who ratted out on his fellow Americans and caused death (and mayhem) and recieved little or no punishment while suggesting that Pollard was worse is extremely suspicious.
OK believe what. I don’t give a crap.
That’s an exceptionally uncivil, correct, and informative graphic.
I think Walker did a lot more damage to us than Pollard did. Ron Pelton, who used to work for me, is still in prison for selling secrets to the KGB. Ron did some serious damage. He’s been in for over 25 years, and I don’t think he’ll ever breathe free air again.
Those of us who know exactly the damage Pollard caused, need not, and bound by law as we are, we can not play your stupid game.
Pollard sold information to the government of Israel. Israel sold the information to the former USSR.
That the former USSR does not exist anymore is not due to any action of the Israeli government, but despite it.
Pollard will never be pardoned.
Israel will never again be considered an allied nation worthy of special trust, as they once were, before their admitted involvement with Pollard.
Why do you play games here?
In less than five years, the reason Pollard will die behind bars as a convicted traitor to the USA will become declassified to the point of open knowledge.
There is no way Israel will come out of the whole affair looking like a true ally to the USA.
Perhaps that will clearly explain why many subsequent USA government administrations appear to be ambivalent towards Israel.
“extremely suspicious.”
Just say it. Anyone who disagrees with you hates Jews.
That’s how you roll isn’t it?
I don't think that at all. He is welcome to believe that Pollard is the worst of the worst. It does not make him a Jew hater, nor does your response make you one.
Unfortunately he offered no arguments to respond to my questions about Aldrich Ames and neither did you. So, as he responded to me, I also respond to you- "whatever".
So answer to me.
Post 46.
If you dare!
“Unfortunately he offered no arguments to respond to my questions about Aldrich Ames and neither did you.”
You labeled it “Extremely Suspicious”. Why would you use a term like that? It’s like you KNOW the poster is guilty of something - or at least he APPEARS to be, and sometimes it’s the appearance of impropriety that is important, isn’t it?
You don’t remember your previous totally unsubstantiated accusations of antisemitism levied at me over the same topic. And why would you? You were in rare form.
You are a race-baiter. Your defense of Pollard boils down to nuances (to you) of how he is treated compared to non-Jew spies, and ultimately your defense is a thin gruel of “you hate Jews....unless you want Pollard released”
Jesse Jackson has nothing over you. It won’t work.
Frankly, I find your defense of Pollard “extremely suspicious”.
