OWN reboots (Oprah's advertisers in a panic)
NY Post ^ | March 8, 2011 | MICHAEL SHAIN

Oprah's new cable network -- which has not been able to get much traction since its blockbuster opening week -- is getting the "reboot."

Network officials have quietly been telling worried advertisers that OWN, Oprah's new channel, will begin reshuffling its lineup in the next weeks and investing millions in advertising to win back faithful viewers.

-snip-

Advertisers like Procter & Gamble agreed to pay the network $100 million for the first three years, unprecedented for a cable channel that was started from scratch, based solely on Oprah's reputation.

Advertisers have the right to throw money down the drain. But the real power is in the consumer with money. I wished there was a list of advertisers for networks and programs.

"unprecedented for a cable channel that was started from scratch"

Didn't they just take over the Discovery Health channel?

Hope she’s enjoying the socialist utopia that’s being brought about in part by her endorsement of Obama.

As the socialist misery spreads people tend to give up things like, oh, say.... premium cable channels, magazines, newspaper subscriptions and the like so that they can afford things like.... gas and food.

May Obama’s Trickle Up Economics bite her good and hard.

Well, they took over the number slot for the Discovery Health Channel...sometime afterwards, and without all the hoopla and look at me look at me screaming, Discovery launched the new Discovery fit and Healthy channel on a different number slot. I ran into on accident looking for Food Network last month. It runs all the programming from the old Discovery Health...so if someone needed to get their fix on fat people, eyeball surgeries, babies being born to addicts/paraplegics/80 yr olds, or people who think that eating couch cushions is good eats..there ya go.

They don’t care to discuss that since the ratings were better for that channel than they are for OWN.

Maybe it’s because most of the shows on it are crap?

P&G should have known that Oprah's star plummeted as soon as she backed Obambi.

And, she continues to back his failing presidency which translates to stupid.

Even her dimwitted fans were catching on... too many have dumped her. She's dispensable.

Sort of like that other rich woman: Huffpo.

I think oprah's adoration of obama has a lot to do with it.

She is basically the same kind of person - she acquired some "power" over the years and looks down her nose at the little people.

Also, there has been a pattern of people who attached themselves to obama's star of falling out of favor with the American people. He is poison to anyone with a "public" career.

As far as Proctor and Gamble goes, my wife says "ha ha"...they cancelled her favorite soap, "Guiding Light" to save money, and are now blowing it on this chuncky obamatron.

Just like AOL and the HuffPo, it won’t work. I haven’t even watched 5 seconds of that channel and have absolutely no plans to ever watch it.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving Obama supporter.

I guess money can’t buy everything - eh, Oprah?

The advertisers in this case are corporations with a responsibility to shareholders. This looks like more a dontation to a DNC billionaire’s project than it does advertisment.

I don’t know that the shareholders planned to donate their money to a has been DNC socialist/racist Obamma croney when they bought stock in P&G. I think they are in it for the money and that they expect P&G to be in business for the money, too. Proping up socialism is the opposite of that.

What I don’t understand is why the Oprahbeaste channel was given to us AT&T subscribers here in Mentor, Ohio, without strings attached, but the Fox Business Channel that actually has substance has to be subscribed to . . . Maybe I answered my own question.

It's kind of like food.

If you want garbage, or used food, you can go to the dump and get it for free.

If you want something that actually feeds you, you have to pay for it.

“Advertisers like Procter & Gamble agreed to pay the network $100 million for the first three years...”

Someone at P & G needs to be fired. I can see a month-to-month incentive contract based on the network’s performance. But handing over $100 million to the racist queen of daytime TV is stupid.

Wow! Hey stupid...uh, P & G, I’m starting up midget wrestling and a puppy football league network. Got $100 million you can invest?
