(CNSNews.com) - National Public Radio President and CEO Vivian Schiller said Monday that NPR gets a tremendous amount of criticism for being too conservative.
At a luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Schiller was asked by a moderator: Do you believe theres an imbalance at NPR in terms of liberals and conservatives in the newsroom--I think I know which side theyd like to have better represented there--if the answer is yes, what do you propose to do about it?
Schiller said, You know, every news organization--Ive worked now with three news organizations, but even every other, people I know from every other news organization I know--gets criticized about being too liberal, about being too conservative, about being too this, that and the other. It comes with the territory.
So, certainly we do get criticized about all manner of things, said Schiller. In terms of the liberal, and I will tell you that it maybe doesnt get as much attention, but we get a tremendous amount of criticism for being too conservative as well. I wish that those folks could be in our editorial meetings and see what goes on and the care that our reporters and our journalists and other editors take to get it right.
This is an incredibly crucial cornerstone of what we do to present, not journalism that is on the one hand, on the other hand--thats not very interesting story-telling, she said. But journalism that reflects no particular bias. And its not just a matter of how the stories are told, its the kind of stories that we tell on NPR.
She continued, For those that do criticize us for being liberal, I ask them, when I get that personally, I ask them to point to specific stories. And when they do, we take those very seriously. Have we erred? Absolutely, we have erred in the past, but we make corrections, and we always strive to do better.
Bwahahahaha....since when has NPR been conservative? lulz.
Hello, his lips are moving...in the same vain as the AnnointedIdiot: if his lips are moving; he is lying, period. =.=
Defund NPR with extreme prejudice.
If this is literally true — as opposed to leftist propaganda — it means their listenings are virtually hard-core Communists and anarchists.
Not really. I’m sure they do. The sort of people who think Radio Pacifica is unbiased tend to be noisy and doubtless generate the complaints he is reporting.
Check this out. March 8, 2011
NPR executives caught on tape bashing conservatives and Tea Party, touting liberals
DEFUND NPR. Make them pay back what the federal government (that’s taxpayers like you and me) have given them. Cut them off completely.
She is not fit for the Job making that statement.
NPR, you’re so lame,
I bet you think we think about you,
You’re so lame
I bet you think we care about you
don’t you, don’t you...
Now that right there is some funny $hit, I don’t care who you are.
Well then, let’s defund this tax-payer funded bastion of “conservatism”. Surely, that shouldn’t upset the Left.
We Get a Tremendous Amount of Criticism for Being Too Conservative’
Everybody is a comedian
Tremendous: being of such as to cause trembling, fear, or arouse dread. Perhaps the CEO misconstrued the communications from conservatives.
"There! That's a gratuitous slam against President Bush! What does he have to do about the situation in Libya? Look! You just called Obama brilliant! How many times does that make? Four? In the past 15 minutes?"
They are blind to their own bias, or else deeply dishonest. (Dishonest is the correct answer.)
Me thinks that NPR is suffering from the Miss Piggy syndrome: A Grand Delusion of “How Beautiful Am I!”
In this case, substitute “moderate” or “middle of the road” or “a True Reflection of Truth and American Values” for “Beautiful”.
IOW, NPR, no matter what you think, you are not:
“middle of the road”
“a True Reflection of Truth and American Values”.
You are simply a pretentious pig who loves to wallow in liberal muck.
(should I tell them what I really think?)
In the editorial meeting:
"Shall we investigate Obama's Long Form Birth Certificate?" Crickets.
Shall we investigate Obama's grades, papers, standings, in the various schools he claims to have attended? Crickets.
Shall we research the writing styles of Bill Ayers and compare with the "Dreams of my Father?" Crickets.
Oh, yes, I'd love to see what goes on in those NPR editorial meetings!
The criticism of being too conservative comes from readers with cartoon avatars in the comments section of any article.
You are simply a pretentious pig who loves to wallow in liberal muck.
And.. that effete NPR voice is especially irritating. Does anyone know anyone who speaks like THAT!
But, just for the record. . .it's not about being criticized for Left or Right bias. . it's about the number of registered Democrats in your shop running things. As it is in most media operations, upwards to 80% to 90% of all on-air reporters, newspaper journalists, production and editorial content people in the media are registered Democrats. That fact manifests in most media coverage.
Is this MRS RON SCHILLER?????
he of the muslim money payola grab exposed by James o’Keefe?
If so, isn’t “NPR”, taxpayer funded media, due for crtical review of its incestuous hiring? What a viper nest of progressive nepotism. DISGUSTING.
How much taxpayer loot did the Schiller clan collect from “NPR”. collectively?
Good. That’s all the more reason to defund NPR. They will have more of a rebel image if they don’t get a subsidy.
Great joke, I needed a good laugh! Hilarious. Wow, that’s made my day....that Vivian thinks that she got accused for being Conservative!
-—the laugh track following THAT headline, would last...for HOURS!
I don’t care whether NPR or this witch is liberal or conservative. I just don’t want to be taxed.
Then again, it's better than the hate letters they send out from 'life long Republicans'...
This argument is what liberal publications always use, so it must be the best they've got. Pretty lame. There are rational ways to determine bias, if they actually cared, but they don't.
Not hooey. Plenty of lefties are nuts enough to think NPR tilt’s conservative. If so then these lefties shouldn’t mind if tax money to NPR is cut off
So True! I remember when klinton was a pres. every mention of him was a reverential "PRESIDENT CLINTON" (no doubt with bows, scrapes, and kowtows)
President Bush was just "BUSH".
National Pubic Radio deserves death without a funeral.
I can see that. Do you know anyone who isn’t ultra-liberal who listens to NPR? I don’t.
It's as likely as the KKK getting letters saying they're too open minded.
Some REAL journalists needs to take a long hard look at some of these letters.
Here's a hint: Not everyone who's registered as a Republican is one. Some people cheat. They sign-up to provide cover for a series of dirty tricks.
No different than Obama taking flak from his leftwing base from time to time.
Exactly. She's spewing pure B.S. If the liberals actual thought NPR was conservative, they would be trying to defund it. The liberals can't even stand to have private individuals with private money express a conservative point of view. If any liberal actual expresses the notion that NPR is too conservative (as opposed to her lying about it), it is to make NPR seem more central so as to keep the public fundiing.
So they got jokes!
I listen to NPR regularly, purely for amusement. I have no exposure to network TV, and so NPR is the principal way I hear the Liberal point of view. I am always dumbfounded that they (appear to) think that they are unbiased. They are in fact, hate-mongers toward all things right, and idolizers of all things left. Utterly blatant. But they just say “Who? Us? No, we’re very fair.”
There really are such people who seriously think NPR is too conservative. They include those I argue with who say that Obama is a moderate. Yep. You can’t make some of this stuff up.
That’s the story that newspapers, etc. always use when accused of liberal bias.
Sadly, it’s probably true that they get jumped on from lefties if they vary even slightly from the party line.
I get that from the Dallas Morning News when it couldn’t be more plain that they lean left. So far they’re in danger of falling.
But however, they lean, it doesn’t make it right for them to be funded by the government, aka US.
I agree. I wouldn't care if NPR played John Philip Sousa marches all day, the government has no business running a radio station with our tax money.
Moonbats are never satisfied.
I’m sure they do. The typical loyal NPR listeners that I’ve known would fall somewhere between Bill Ayers and Lev Trotsky on the political spectrum.
Hah! death without a funeral.
But can I just celebrate quietly in the privacy of my own home?
From who, The Shining Path?
It’s unbelievable how Republicans have went along with this nonsense for decades. They’ve funded dem campaigns and GOTV efforts through unions, they’ve funded propaganda arms of the DNC through NPR and PBS.
WTH would you allow the enemy to flourish on the taxpayer’s dime that you have control over?
What to make of this? Is this an admission that their "errors" were the slipping by of an occasional middle-of-the-road story that upset their marxist followers? Were "corrections" severe reprimands on writers and editors for letting the non-kook-fringe article by the censors? Or were they fired on the spot? What does "striving to do better" mean? Rooting out all conservative thought?
