A gaunt-looking, chain-smoking Charlie Sheen posted an online rant where he announced he wants to publish a new book called "Apocalypse Me."
Wearing a Yankee sweatshirt, a disheveled Sheen puffed on cigarettes and chugged from a bottle as he filmed himself talking to a colleague on speakerphone.

I have a son who has schizoaffective disorder (BiPolar Type) and that is what I see in Charlie Sheen. I wish I could laugh about it, but since my son has been in an adult psyc ward for the past month, I find little humor in mental illness - and make no mistake, it is an illness as real as any cancer. It’s why I’m a volunteer for NAMI. Mr Sheen truly needs someone who cares about him to step in and get him help.
I watched a couple of those video clips - fascinating to say the least. Sheen is clearly mentally unstable and in need of serious professional help before he does a Belushi.
He looks older than his Dad.
It is sad to watch. He’s REALLY gone downhill in the past week. If he’s in the ‘manic’ phase....I would hate to see what happens when he crashes. Last night’s ‘performance’ was really bad. He needs to be institutionalized for a while. He was really delusional.

That being said, I find it disgusting the way society mobs around him to gawk, prod, and mock a person who's very obviously suffering a bi-polar breakdown.

It’s more than mental illness, I have sympathy for anyone suffering from mental illness, but not for a meth alcoholic!

This poor guy is 45 years of age and looks 65. If something is not done, I believe he will be dead in a very short time.

I think Sheen has a psychiatric disorder... it’s sociopath. My brother, may he rest in peace, was just like him. He’s just let drugs and alcohol take over his mind. He’s selfish and possessive and thinks he is entitled to enjoy his life the way he sees fit, for good or bad. My brother was the same way, misogynist, alcohol, drugs, wild anti social behavior, fits of rage, thinking everybody was out to get him, in and out of jail or prison all his life, never held a job longer than a year or two. My brother was diagnosed as a sociopath at age 13 and never changed. His lifestyle never changed and it eventually killed him. .....

To be fair, he’s the one putting himself out there on all sorts of media.
If he was ignored and then did himself in, there might be complaints that he was ignored. It’s sort of a can’t win situation.
I’ve got a friend who’s been fighting bipolar/drugs for 5 years.
Same story.
I don’t know why they don’t........I guess it makes money for someone. But it is disturbing to have to witness this.
I always wonder, what comes first, the drug abuse or the crazy?
The schizophrenic/bipolar/manic types I have known have always used drugs heavily. At least in their past.
Do the drugs make them crazy, or, do they start using drugs to control an already crazy mind?

My brother was diagnosed as a sociopath at 13, 1969-70, before drugs were commonly available at any elementary school. His behavior was always ‘bad’ even as a small child. Drugs were an addition to that behavior when he reached late teens. He would steal money from mom’s purse, steal her valium, steal her cigs and steal the alcohol we had in the house. He, in my opinion, was born that way..................
Hugs to you. I know where you are coming from. My dh and I went bankrupt attempting to help our son diagnosed with bipolar. After 9 hospitalizations in a 4 year time period and a stint homeless, he finally recovered enough to turn his life around. Now he is doing as well as can be expected and has even managed to hold down a job, marry and become a responsible parent.
And it brings back frightening memories because I too see his old behavior in Charlie Sheen.
I've said it before, he's at least a narcissist & has visions of grandeur about himself. There is a fine line between narcissist & sociopath, so could be either. Narcissists have an addictive personality, to drugs, alcohol & sex.

My brother was a gigolo during his younger manhood. He’d scam old ladies in South Florida for money, place to live, etc. He had great powers of persuasion, a silver tongue full of sad stories, none of which were true and a personality that was affable and outgoing as long as things went ‘his way’. He could turn from nice to horrible in a split second..............
He doesn’t have to worry about finding a job. Northwestern University offered him the position of Chairman of their sex-studies program.
Sheen (and my brother) also seems to have a persecution complex.............
Amy Winehouse could do narration on the series.
So sad, really sad. His father helped me personally once, and though I don’t like his Dad’s politics, I always respected him for doing something from his heart for me when no one was looking, and my heart breaks for anyone who loves this sick, sick Charlie.
For the person who asked which comes first, the drugs or the bipolar, it’s the bipolar. It makes them want to self-medicate. MANY MANY sufferers of bipolar do take drugs or have problems with alcohol. My SIL had it and died too young two years ago.
He needs someone to help him gain control, but he is so rich and famous, and shuts out those who wish to get him help, that all they can do is sit, wring their hands, and pray something happens to get him into a 72-hour observation. And of course pray that what happens doesn’t kill him first.
I think his being fired may help him in the long run. Paying a crazy man millions doesn’t get him well. It’s sad because his stream of consciousness shows a smart brain, albeit one that is completely disconnected from reality now.
I hope he gets some help.
