Dems: Congress's Styrofoam cups could cause cancer
A group of Democrats complain Styrofoam cups in the House cafeteria could contain carcinogens.
In a letter to Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) and other Republican leaders, the nine Democrats say the Styrofoam cups and other dining materials could hold chemical components that could cause cancer. The Democrats are upset with the switch to Styrofoam from recyclable materials put into place when Democrats ran the House.
The letter asks Boehner to reconsider the switch away from recyclable to polystyrene-based foam containers, and warns that the health of visitors to the Capitol could be compromised.

They could use their hands instead.
Liberalism: Whenever and however possible, portray yourself as the victim of mean, evil Republicans
Somebody tell these dimwits not to eat the cups.
Kucinich will be filing a lawsuit by week’s end.
We are frigging doomed.
Could it work?
Dammit, they found out >:(
They could use their hands instead.
I like the way you think!
If only it was that easy....
But they never even attempted to ban Styrofoam cups as far as i know. Other then the time they tried to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide.
lol! good one.
Interesting. Out of the entire herd of Democrat moonbats, only 9 (nine) were willing to sign their names to this.
A true environmentalist would bring his own washable cup.
How the hell do they know whether or not other options were considered? They didn't ask any questions, they went straight to "politically-correct" attack-mode.
These Human appearing life forms called Democrats highlight, and support homosexuality that can give far more than just cancer.
Here’s a thought: Let ‘em go out like real Americans and buy their own damn coffee.
This is EPA territory, I bet San Fran Nan has already contacted them.
Well, they should quit eating the ^@%!$% things.
Can a cancer get cancer? Inquiring minds.......
Oh for gawds sakes, bring your own damn cups you screaming ninnies! I am sure your annual pay raise can cover it.
YES....IF THEY DON’T want to drink the coffee out of styrofoam.....GO BUY your own...or better yet....bring yer own! What a bunch of whiney n’er do wells.
who was it the left went after a few years ago? rush? said they hoped he smoked and got cancer and died?
The US Congress - Romper Room.
Those corn based cups last forever. Seriously. But to use them and toss them back? What energy is expended in making them in the first place.
However, I don’t think it was a wise move on the Repubs to switch to styrofoam either. There is a good level of validity to recycling products. Boehner should make the necessary adjustments. Use real glass or china and expect them to wash them out themselves.
They really are mentally melting.
I have an idea. If the Hill Dems are so afraid of getting cancer from styrofoam cups, they should consider how bad drinking water or breathing air is in DC. They should go home! Stay there, where it’s nice and safe and they can drink from china cups.
Sounds like a Charlie Sheen moment to me..
Get a glass cup and use that idiots golly gee do I have to tell you idiots everything..
I love it when Democrats call Republicans anti-scientific: these jerkweeds are clearly unaware that they’re ingesting orders of magnitudes more potential carcinogens in the coffee they’re drinking than they are from any trace materials that might - might - be leached from the styrofoam.
We all have our own washable cups at work. We also found out that it is an OSHA violation to not have them marked with our names and have to provide disposable cups for visitors.
You owe me a keyboard.
Nancy Pelosi’s “Green the Capitol” Initiative Turns out to be Massive Waste of Resources
The LA Times has an excellent report detailing the miserable failure of Nancy Pelosi’s “Green the Capitol” initiative which involved using “cornstarch-based knives, forks and spoons” instead of plastic. Per all supposed “green initiatives,” rather than save resources, it wasted them, en masse.
It turns out that the composting program not only cost the House an estimated $475,000 a year (according to the House inspector general) but actually increased energy consumption in the form of “additional energy for the pulping process and the increased hauling distance to the composting facility,” according to a news release from Lungren.
As far as carbon emissions were concerned, Lungren concluded that the reduction was the “nominal ... equivalent to removing one car from the road each year.” He plans to switch the House to an alternate waste-management system recommended by the Architect of the Capitol, in which dining-service trash would be incinerated and the heat energy captured.
I’ll bet these people are afraid of their underpants.
now that’s insulting to all pre-k-ers out there;-)
I hate the paper ones. If you don’t have a plastic top on them, the paper “lip” unrolls in your mouth with the wet heat.
There is a very simple solution. Bring your own travel drink mug, such as dunkin donuts or 7-11 provides. That is the most “green” thing to do of all.
However that won’t work because the REAL socialists have a thing about being provided free stuff by the government.
I remember in David Horowitz’s book “Radical Son”, his communist parents and their friends protested because they DIDNT want to own their homes, they wanted the government to own their homes and they live in them free.
WHAT??!? Switch away from recyclable? These monsters are deliberately trying to kill us all with global warming and turn Mother Gaia into a trashpile! They're killing the polar bears, that's what they're doing!! They're evil, slimy KKKorporate operatives in bed with Big Oil, Big Plastic, and Big Union Sanitation Engineers!!!
But I had this idea, see...we make plates and cups out of, oh, I dunno, fired clay, and after we use them we wash them. It's sustainable, guys. Sustainable.
The top Democrat and former Speaker said that the House will now send 535 more tons of waste to landfills due to a change in policy under the GOP-held House.
That works out to 259,740.25 cups for each member of Congress.
I get the feeling she's exaggerating.
In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? ~~Ronald Reagan
If they are whining about such insignificant crap can you imagine what will happen if there are REAL CUTS?!
No, tell them that paint chips make a tasty desert...
She is lying!
