Yawn... What good is the extra energy if you can't put it on target? Add a bit of wind and a bit of guesswork on range and hitting a man sized target is an iffy proposition.
1954. My dad was in the Air Force from ‘51 to ‘53, and B-47’s had just come into service. The guys on the base thought they were about the coolest things they’d ever seen (and the loudest they’d ever heard).
Just talk to Ronnie Barrett at Barrett Arms, he has the solution ready to go.
It was the powder that was changed to do away with the problem in the M16.
I’d like to get one of those AR-15s in .308 caliber.
They cited complaints of weight, recoil, and heavy ammo. I loved the gun and “spray and pray” were not part of our manual of combat arms. Now they realize the value of the 7.62x51 in other than a machine gun and they are bringing it back out - at least what Klinton didn’t give to the Balkans or cut up. But I find it interesting that the Italians had developed an improved garand with a new gas system and box magazine and many variations including the collapsible stocked Alpine version. Time and US ingenuity has produced a better sniper rifle and completed the loop that the Italians started with improving the great garand platform.
>>I prefer the old Garand.<<
Roger that, a rifle you can trust with your life. Never was a member of the “Spray and Pray” club.
That said, THAT isn’t your daddy’s M-14! It might just make me expand my trust horizon to include “son of Garand”.
Measure across your chest from nipple to nipple. Now measure from the top of your chest to your belt buckle.
What are those dimensions?
Already type classified, Army XM110 SASS / Navy Mk11 Mod 0, based on the KAC SR25.
That's called an AR-10.
Ever shoot a trapdoor Springfield?
Now THERE’s a gun with an authoritative bullet!!!
Actually I have the same action, on a custom built barrel and stock, in 243, a beautiful piece of work. Has a classic 15 power scope.

Some of the best pistols and rifles come from the Alps region of Europe including Italy - Beretta, SIG, Steyr, H&K were s germany near the alps.
The Italians have been making rifles for 500 years.
From Wiki:
“Beretta was established in 1526 when gunsmith Maestro Bartolemeo was paid 296 ducats for 185 arquebus (rifle) barrels by the Arsenal of Venice.” Venice ordered more from Beretta.
Wonder what those Beretta barreled Venetian arquebus (rifles) were later used with devastating effect in 1571 AD?
The Battle of Lepanto where Islam was defeated and Europe was saved. It was one of the largest sea battles in history with marines, infantry on ships and naval guns.
Sweet.
Nice, my stock is better than this, it was custom hand done by my father. Walnut dark red/brown with black and is very sentimental.
My scope is a Leupold Mark 4 3x10 40mm with 30-06 cams. Scope has Mil-dot reticule with first focal plane.
“Also maybe due to .5 MOA accuracy”
The article said the military version was a 2.5 MOA but the extra snappy, special built, National Match version he got to shoot with $1.50/rd ammo was .05 MOA.
Having walked many a mile with a firearm, this looks heavy and cumbersome. I would prefer the AR10 or SCAR.
yeah, always wanted one of those. Couldn’t fit it in the plane.
