WASHINGTON, D.C., March 9, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a 44-56 vote, the U.S. Senate has voted against a budget bill crafted by House Republicans that would have eliminated federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
The Democrat-led Senate also failed to pass its own budget bill, which contained much fewer spending cuts and maintained the abortion giant’s funding.
The vote marks the first stage of what promises to be a drawn-out battle between two opposite visions for the 2011 fiscal year, as well as between pro-life and pro-abortion forces fiercely gunning for or against the amendment de-funding Planned Parenthood.
President Obama has promised to veto the House version as it stands.
The Senate - RATS - pro-death. We need to hang them with this.
Yep, gotta gain firm control of the senate in the next election.
I’m hoping Rob Steele runs against Debbie Stabenow.
Uh. I thought all revenue bills originate in the House.
Can’t they just cut off funding by killing the revenue for this and ignore the Senate and Obama?
At least three Republicans crossed over, assuming no “moderate” Dems crossed as well.. Who were they and are they running for reelection in 2012?
at least three rinos are on the wrong side....
I’ll be working on firing one of the damn no votes next year. Stupidnow needs to go.
originates, but i has to pass through the Senate and WH. They control the purse strings which gives them a big seat at the negotiating table.
why do I think they are probably from the liberal hell hole of the north east.

Yes all revenue bills are required to originate in the House. So while the Senate has killed this bill, it’s up to the House to get another budget bill going. The Senate, constitutionally, has to wait for the House to act.
We’ll see what happens............
Snowe, Collins and what other RINO voted against the defunding bill?
Let me guess, Brown, Collins, and Snowe?
It did originate in the House.
Not exactly surprised, are we? Hopefully in 2012 we can change that.
Democrat Senate can’t pass a budget bill? No surprise. They couldn’t pass any budget at all last year.
I really hope Steele runs against our idiot.
My guess is Brown.
My guess is Brown.
You can expect the GOP to surrender now.
Thats what they normally do.
That is...they will flee the country (rumor has it that they'll be staying in France...where they feel at home amongst their kind) so they don't have to vote.
Rob Steele - MI more information please. Up here in God’s Country (the UP of MI for the rest of FRs, LP of MI people are called trolls live under the bridge (mackinac)) information is slow in getting here. thanks
This has got to be a big issue in the ‘12 campaign.
I saw that Mike Pence voted to FUND abortions in hospitals. He’s completely deserted the pro-life movement if what I read was true and it was a reliable source - no reason to doubt.
The moderate republicans (Snowe, Brown, etc.) voted for the bill. The 3 republican no votes were Rand Paul, Jim Demint, and Mike Lee. Their opposition was from the right, that the bill still spends too much money, and it does.
Is Mike Pence in the senate? He of all people may have crossed over. Seriously.
Exactly what I was thinking. What does the House do now and what authority do they have?
Where is this? Where’s the source? I have a hard time taking that one on face value due to Pence’s record.
Rob Steele is the MD who ran against John Dingell in the last election.
He entered the race late but gave entrenched Dingell a real run for his money and cost the democrats a lot of money. Dingell should have walked to an easy victory but Steele made it a real race.
I don't know who I'd support, but Steele at least has shown he can run a credible campaign.
Pence is in the house, not the senate.
what about Pete Hoekstra?
The Senate can only approve funding or hold their breath. They can’t spend it.
If the house doesn’t send them what they want, all they can do is shut down the government.
The House would be smart to make this entire two years about the budget. Take one item at a time and pass it on to the Senate or reject it outright. Roll everything that is left into a continuing resolution until all that is left is crap. THEN go home and let the continuing resolution expire.
I could vote for Hoekstra but Steele would be my first choice.
We need to close our primaries in Michigan.
Given his high rank in the house and relative safety of his district for re-election, he would be the logical choice of "designated Judas" in this case.
shut it down....the entire government...no more temporary spending bills....shut it down...resubmit the same bill with a different date on it, then shut it down
They control revenue bills.
It should be THEIR way or the HIGHWAY!
Its what the public elected them to do.
I hope they hang tough.
And I hope we get somebody to run against Lugar and his fellow herd of RINOs.
The Senate can and will vote down those things that endanger the Democrat platform, and Obama can veto anything that passes the Senate, without fear of being over-ridden.
“I’d be a little careful about pillorying Pence based on his generally pro-life record. It is normal parliamentary procedure for one member on each side to be designated to vote against their convictions as a device to bring it back for a vote should it become necessary....”
thanks for the info...just how does that work?
thank you for the information. since we are able to vote for seat that Stabenow occupies up here to.
Got rid of Bart Stupak replaced with Dr. Dan Benishek lots of conservatives are happy. even the dems are happy.
Just so you are aware Stupak has told the people of the UP he will run again, but has vowed to take some time off. Just hope Stabenow does not retire, than he might try to run. Just letting you know exchanging of the possible candidates for the regional politics
The primary authority they have, is that they control the bills that get sent over to the Senate. Where spending is concerned, the Senate can only vote on what the House sends them.
And thus, the contents and manner in which those bills get sent over, offer the possibility of fruitful strategies to frame the debate over various issues.
One thing the House can do, is to force the Senate to vote on sensible legislation, particularly those items related to the budget. This is essentially what Rep. Ryan was suggesting last week, with his "two weeks at a time" comment.
I am burned out on the GOP!
Which RINORATS Flipped?
Which RINORATS Flipped?
The House Republicans need to keep doing this. Come up with their own budget, no compromise, that cuts at least $100 billion, including all pet projects from all Senators.
If they don’t like it, send a new one cutting $150 billion and cut all pet projects from all rat congress critters.
If they don’t like that, keep cutting until they agree. Keep upping the ante, in terms of budget cuts.
This will serve two purposes: weakens the rats and expose the rinos in a way that they do not want.
Join the club.
Unbelievable. What else was in the bill? Why would DeMint cross over?
May God give us strength.
