Skip to comments.NPR exec caught on tape saying he would hide donation from Muslim Brotherhood from government

When a man posing as Ibrahim Kasaam asked, "It sounded like you were saying NPR would be able to shield us from a government audit, is that correct?" NPR's senior director of institutional giving, Betsy Liley, responded, "I think that is the case, especially if you are anonymous. I can inquire about that." According to conservative James O'Keefe, whose Project Veritas organization conducted the NPR sting organization, the man posing as Kasaam made two follow-up phone calls to Liley after their lunch.
Liley said a $5 million donation would amount to about "10 years of support."
Kasaam follows up by asking: "The fact that NPR is not only a tax-exempt organization, but also receives direct contributions from the government - does that invite some sort of government oversight or government examination of contributions, et cetera?"
Liley answered: "They have audited our programs at times and, I think, as part of that, they can look at our audited financials. If you are concerned in any way about that, that's one reason you might want to be an anonymous donor. And, we would certainly, if that was your interest, want to shield you from that."
Liley mentioned a precedent at NPR - in more than $80 million in donations from universities.
NPR released a statement saying that Liley was not following procedure and that the organization didn't work this way. I call baloney on that. They obviously don't have a clue how their senior executives raise money or if they shield it from the prying eyes of government.
Maybe someone should look into taking away their tax payer subsidy. Oh, wait...
A little like, “my comments don’t reflect what I think”...
De-fund the traitorous bastards. Now.
What Universities donated 80 million dollars, what did they get for their 80 million and who organized this donation and was it approved by their boards or were they hidden the same way from their institutions.
´Seems like Treason to me.
Not only de-fund. But somebody needs to go to prison.
For liberals, the ends always justifies the means.
Damn...not only do your tax dollars go to NPR; but the cash you pony up for your child’s tuition, as well...public education is a crime syndicate, IMO.
look for “Betsy Liley, Fundraiser” on Monster.com soon.
I’m concerned about the “he” in the title. Is Betsy Liley a guy, or are they referring to another NPR exec?
I heard that differently - I believe she was talking about an anon donor to universities run by women - one of her numerous rehashing of goings on at Purdue Univ. with donor money.
Purdue has to be flipping their lid about this tape too - she's a chatty cathy
In the event they cannot pay the regular corporate taxes that I mention above their assets should be taken and auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Once we are finished with NPR then we should move on to the "Ad Council" which is another extremely stupid thing we fund with tax dollars and tax exemptions. The list goes on....
Betsy Liley also said that NPR had no litmus test for donors.
It seems timely to have a congressional investigation into past donors, following the defunding of NPR
I have had a suspicion for years that our government has increasing numbers of communists working in the various agencies. Do anyone else feel this way?
This would effectively make NPR, and those aware of the money, unregistered foreign agents accepting funds from known terrorist organizations. Multiple felony violations in the area of National Security statutes, similar to espionage.
It's as bad as you can get without actually committing a violent attack against the US.
THIS may well finish NPR.
It could be a real eye-opener.
Doesn't a gift tax have to be paid on large gifts? Would this make them an accessory to tax evasion?
