NPR exec caught on tape saying he would hide donation from Muslim Brotherhood from government
American Thinker ^ | 03/11/2011 | Rick Moran

Posted on 03/11/2011 7:25:49 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Lenin was reported to have said that "Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them." I got that feeling reading this story in the Daily Caller about another NPR executive saying something outrageous.

This time, Betsy Liley, a senior vice president for Institutional Giving promised a fictitious front group for the Muslim Brotherhood that NPR could shield their $5 million donation from a government audit, thus making the donation invisible:

When a man posing as Ibrahim Kasaam asked, "It sounded like you were saying NPR would be able to shield us from a government audit, is that correct?" NPR's senior director of institutional giving, Betsy Liley, responded, "I think that is the case, especially if you are anonymous. I can inquire about that." According to conservative James O'Keefe, whose Project Veritas organization conducted the NPR sting organization, the man posing as Kasaam made two follow-up phone calls to Liley after their lunch.

Liley said a $5 million donation would amount to about "10 years of support."

Kasaam follows up by asking: "The fact that NPR is not only a tax-exempt organization, but also receives direct contributions from the government - does that invite some sort of government oversight or government examination of contributions, et cetera?"

Liley answered: "They have audited our programs at times and, I think, as part of that, they can look at our audited financials. If you are concerned in any way about that, that's one reason you might want to be an anonymous donor. And, we would certainly, if that was your interest, want to shield you from that."

Liley mentioned a precedent at NPR - in more than $80 million in donations from universities.

NPR released a statement saying that Liley was not following procedure and that the organization didn't work this way. I call baloney on that. They obviously don't have a clue how their senior executives raise money or if they shield it from the prying eyes of government.

Maybe someone should look into taking away their tax payer subsidy. Oh, wait...

What Universities donated 80 million dollars, what did they get for their 80 million and who organized this donation and was it approved by their boards or were they hidden the same way from their institutions.

I’m concerned about the “he” in the title. Is Betsy Liley a guy, or are they referring to another NPR exec?

Liley mentioned a precedent at NPR - in more than $80 million in donations from universities.

I heard that differently - I believe she was talking about an anon donor to universities run by women - one of her numerous rehashing of goings on at Purdue Univ. with donor money.

Purdue has to be flipping their lid about this tape too - she's a chatty cathy

It is right to cut off their government funds. They never should have had access to them in the first place. But, MORE IMPORTANTLY, strip them of their 501c3 status then audit them and collect regular corporate taxes from them. Do not let them be a so-called "non-profit". They are a commercial enterprise!

In the event they cannot pay the regular corporate taxes that I mention above their assets should be taken and auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Once we are finished with NPR then we should move on to the "Ad Council" which is another extremely stupid thing we fund with tax dollars and tax exemptions. The list goes on....

Betsy Liley also said that NPR had no litmus test for donors.

It seems timely to have a congressional investigation into past donors, following the defunding of NPR

It would be interesting to investigate which real organizations with ties to terrorist groups have secretly helped fund NPR. George Soros' Open Society Institute just gave them $1.8 million, but of course, that's perfectly legal. Regardless, there is no reason whatsoever for taxpayers to subsidize this nest of socialist vipers.

Betsy Liley, a senior vice president for Institutional Giving promised a fictitious front group for the Muslim Brotherhood that NPR could shield their $5 million donation from a government audit, thus making the donation invisible:

This would effectively make NPR, and those aware of the money, unregistered foreign agents accepting funds from known terrorist organizations. Multiple felony violations in the area of National Security statutes, similar to espionage.

It's as bad as you can get without actually committing a violent attack against the US.

THIS may well finish NPR.

We should take away their tax free status for anonymous contributions and make those taxable at 50%.

Doesn't a gift tax have to be paid on large gifts? Would this make them an accessory to tax evasion?

And irregardless of what anyone at NPR and PBS says, they ALL know what’s going on with the money.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Factually, Marxists have been infiltrating and organizing in the US since just before the turn of the Twentieth Century.

It increased in WWI and again 1921. Lenin ran several philosophical indoctrination programs.

Joe Stalin quickly instituted and funded hundreds of espionage, corruption, and sabotage programs throughout the US (and the rest of the free world) and most of those efforts became self sustaining and have never stopped.

A prime example of a Stalin created and funded program is the ACLU.

This will happen after Holder investigates the ambush video by Jesse who will be arrested and prosecuted for denying NPR their right to get money for the program!

They got 24/7 propaganda pouring into the minds of people.....Anti everything this country was Founded on—especially anti white, ant-Christian and especially to normalize aberrant behavior. All immoral destructive behaviors are promoted to destroy the natural family, destroy independence and self-reliance and responsibility which the Christian paradigm established.

It is to destroy us from within....create worthless, irresponsible people who can’t commit to anything but self pleasure and escapism. Nihilism.

Sort of, but remember, ya find 'em under rocks, and responsible Americans have been turning rocks over more of late. Many have been here forever we're just noticing now.

As far as names, environmentalist, animal rights, social justice, union, economic justice, worker friendly, social responsibility, alternative anything, health care access, socializing children, ................all are new names for communism, let alone socialism, leftist, Marxist, or the oh so sweet "progressive".

-——What Universities donated 80 million dollars,-——

This is an interesting question. Were the funds actually donations or payments for programming?

The fact is, many state universities actually run the public broadcasting stations, both radio and TV. That is the actual stations are owned and operated by the states. With the exception of some western states that utilize Pacifica, I think all public broadcasting stations are operated by the states. Rather than have a free standing state broadcasting bureaucracy, that task was delegated to the state run universities.

The University of Florida was one of the first and is emulated by Tennessee and North Carolina and others.

The fact is that many Republican governors could bring about change in NPR/PBS by simply not carrying their programming or insisting that the programming be for all people and certainly eliminate the propaganda content. Also, Conservative content could be broadcast at a governor’s insistence if there was someone like NPR/PBS to develop and provide the programming.

I hate to say it, but after reading this article from Glen Beck’s The Blaze website

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/does-raw-video-of-npr-expose-reveal-questionable-editing-tactics/

I no longer trust anything from O’Keefe. In fact, based on real investigative reporting from The Blaze, it looks more like O’Keefe is willing to fabricate and manipulate his videos to say anything he wants them to say - true or not. I don’t care what point you’re trying to make - I don’t like being manipulated by anyone, thank you very much.
