That summary is so oversimplified as to be almost totally inaccurate.

Reactor physics and thermodynamics are fairly simple. It ain't rocket science...

A good number of countries that tried to provide assistance after Katrina were blown-off by the U.S. And then you had the Alex Jones-types claiming we were under attack by them.

As I stated, the only issue is restoring electrical power to move water through the reactor core.

Some really, really important coolant.

Did they ever pay us for Pearl Harbor?

Yeah, by destroying our machine tool industry.

More importantly, have the Japanese paid us for Pokemon and Hello Kitty?

Small potatos.

What we really need are reparations for karaeoke.

the only apparent issue

very odd statement by Rodham’s handlers, then

If we sent generators why not say “we sent generators”

maybe she meant “we sent very important coolant system equipment”

(ie, “generators”)

But Jeez, how many generators does it take to pump enough water to keep 2 nuc reactors cooled down? Is this hugh and series?

This ridiculous news to one side, have any of the so-called environmentalists noticed that even a massive earthquake has not caused the Japanese reactor to melt down, sink through the Earth’s core, blow up in a huge mushroom cloud, release Godzilla, or any of the other hysterical disasters they’re always conjuring up to prevent us from building more of them?

Just asking.

You need one coolant pump at low speed in each reactor plant, one charging pump to add water if necessary, and one feed pump in the secondary plant so you can bleed steam from the steam generator on the secondary side.

Even without those items though, there is plenty of time to get power restored before the reactor core would be damaged. The reactor core is the lowest point in the system--as long as there is water on the core, there will be no damage to it.

The reactor core couldn’t sink through the Earth’s core over there because China is already on that side of the world. /s

This is just a flat out lie she pulled straight out of her a$$.

She is so ignorant about industrial processes she can’t even make up a good lie.

I’ll give my next paycheck to Jesse Jackson’s organization if someone can provide proof this is not a lie.

The reactors in question are boiling water reactors. They don’t have steam generators. The reports indicate that the diesel generators, which are in place to supply power to pumps and such in the event that power cannot be drawn from the grid, did not work. I can imagine many reasons why they might failed. A report earlier in this thread said that new diesel generators are being sent to the plant.

2nd that.

q = m-dot x Cp x delta T

They’re not getting any m-dot if the pumps aren’t running because the emergency diesel generators aren’t running.

I wonder if we really delivered a generator or three. It is the sort of thing that would be readily available at a U.S. air base, and you could probably land a C-130 somewhere close by the plant.

It’s not the pumps, it’s how much power is required to run them? Generally generators are not the most efficient long term sources of power for equipment that draws a lot of power

This is on Drudge now, sounds bad - but then, the MEdia are seeking out interviews from the anti-nuke lobby, who are happily providing dire scenarios

Well, there goes the nuc industry, obamites will use this situation happily as an excuse to shut down even more of the US power industry

Yeah, by destroying our machine tool industry

I'd give American unions some credit for that, as well.
