On Thursday, Texas state Rep. Paul Workman (R-Austin) introduced a bill, which, for the fee of $4,000, would give illegal aliens a green card and allow them to work legally in the state.
Workman told reporters that his proposed legislation, known as the Texas Immigration Reconciliation Act, is necessary to fill the employment needs of also would help fill the needs of Texas businesses and put money in the states depleted coffers.

This ain't gonna work.
I’d rather see a properly administered, regulated, and enforced guest worker program than the chaos we have now.
Yeah let’s not employ Americans in America. That would be horrible /s
Export all the jobs, import a bunch of labor and have reckless gov’t spending.
Gee, I wonder how that will turn out in the end? /s
I’d rather see some laws enforced.
Spare me. Hire Americans. Build a wall. The proposed solution is basically more of the problem. That's dumb.
Wait till another 200,000 move there... They aint seen nothing yet.
Self-serving -------. What he wants is to have his business without paying his workmen - skilled workmen - a living, family wage.
Electing a new people because the old ones are too expensive for him.
This would also help fill a lot of welfare offices since that green card would make them eligible to LEGALLY receive freebies.
“Id rather see a properly administered, regulated, and enforced guest worker program than the chaos we have now.”
We already have a temporary visa system for agriculture. Mexicans can be brought in LEGALLY to pick crops. When laws are not enforced laws are not respected.
Selling green cards to help pay Texas debt?
Last week some moron wanted to pass a bill which would punish everyone that hired illegal aliens except illegal maids, landscapers, and others...lol
Same here. I have no problem with people seeking opportunity here legally. However, aliens here illegally need to be dealt with swiftly and harshly.
Just remember Republicans, if Texas goes Blue you can forget EVER winning another election. That is not a threat but a fact.
In effect what he's wanting to do is to pass his some of his labor costs on to the taxpayers. A mindset quite similar to the Wisconsin public unions. Maybe Mr. Workman will make a special contribution to provide for schooling and health care for his cheap labor.
Wow, straight from the libs' book. Amazing.
Wha't "family wage?"
Workman is also representing a lot of high tech firms in the Austin area who want to bring in cheap IT workers from India/Pakistan and have them replace American workers at a fraction of the labor costs.
A family wage is one that you can support a family on without government subsidies in a home that is in this country and not in a slum.
I’m all for the free market. The free market would give American construction workers a family wage.
Representative Workman is not for a free market unless you believe that borders and national sovereignty and the will of the citizens are impingements on the free market, and that fees to the government promote it.
A free market is not one that is manipulated by lawmakers for the interests of the few, unless you believe that political interest should also operate on the free market system of who ever can pay the most, can buy the laws.
70% of the babies born in Texas “public” hospitals are of illegals.
Overwhelming majority of crimes in the state of Texas are committed by illegal alien gang members.
A few years back, the Harris co. hospital district (the freebie medical care) wrote off their books $385 million in care to illegals who skip out on paying the tab.
There are large portions of the city of Houston that are unrecognizable as the United States. Passing through these areas not only resemble border towns in Mexico, they are dangerous for Caucasians.
These people come here and create little sub-cultures, refusing to assimilate into society.
Texas school districts provide bilingual education, print documents in spanish, costing taxpayers millions per year.
Deport them, enforce immigration laws, tax money transfers to Mexico to help pay for border enforcement.
The only difference is,......"BUILD THE DAMN WALL FIRST!!!!!
Frankly I don't care after the wall is built and we can stop illegals and control who comes and goes and we know who they are. After that point, frankly, we can negotiate who comes in and how many. If an employer wants to cover the expenses a migrant worker might have, fine, bring em on. If they pay for their own medicine, schools and court costs, bring em on. Frankly, they work harder than most Americans for less money. If they cut off their thumb, the employer should pay the costs. If they bring their kids, they have to pay tuition.
But in order to have any of this talked about we must be able to stop the illegals and control who and how many come in. If farmer has a crop coming, he could put in a request for 50 pickers and cover their costs. If a hotel needs a janitor, bring proof that you opened the job up for 2 weeks and no American wanted it and then we can requisition a migrant for the job. Need a landscaper, same thing. I'm not against having the workers do jobs no American wants, but I think we can find roofers, bricklayers, carpenters, and many more if the employer knew he would incur any costs of the workers he requests. We could pre qualify workers and do a background check on the applicants to make sure their DNA isn't on file for a rape or murder and have their fingerprints on file. If they are a felon, they can't apply. if they are clean and trustworthy, we can use the workers. If they are arrested waving the Mexican flag and attending La Raza rally's, send them back.
All of this could be done easily if we just had a fence that worked. I know we couldn't get 100%, but I would consider it successful to get it to the hundreds instead of hundreds of thousands per year. But we can't even consider any legislation until the flow is stopped. Any legislation for migrants now means we will never stop the illegals.
What kind of conservative wants a living wage? Really. A living wage would destroy more jobs. So you are what is called a progressive Republican. Just like Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and Ashcroft and all of the rest of the progressives in the Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II admin.
I know Paul Workman is not free market, what kind of conservative comes out of Travis County. He’s toast in the next election. Travis County is a joke.
“....would give illegal aliens a green card and allow them to work legally in the state.”
Would this also mean that they will be allowed to bring their families to Texas? Who will cover their medical expenses? Does this green card mean that they can apply for citizenship after 5 years?
Hey, NoQuark, why don’t you tell us what YOU think a family wage is? eh?
Always asking questions, never giving answers, eh?
They already receive *freebies* here without question.
Legislating to further his personal business.
And screw the taxpayers. Let them pick up the tab for housing, medical care, food stamps, education, ad nauseum, along with increased crime, unlicensed and uninsured drivers, multiple DUI scofflaws, etc.
But then he is fom Austin...
The free market would give American construction workers a family wage.
Throughout our history, we had crises every decade or two. In 1920, for instance, the average age in the nation fell by 30%. If the free market gave a "family wage" a few months before, then it no longer was a "family wage" when it fell 30%, right?
There is no such thing as a family wage: there is what the market says my services are worth. And they may be worth more today and a lot less tomorrow and then a lot again a day after tomorrow. And nobody is guilty of that: times change.
It is not clear also what you mean when you say "a home:"
that you can support a family on without government subsidies in a home that is in this country and not in a slum.
Just some facts: average home build in the last 15 years is whopping 40% bigger than the average home in 1950s. The average family is almost twice smaller. So an average home-buyer has three times more room than his father or grandfather. He lives in a palace when compared to his grandparents. Of course, if you ask him, he'll tell you that he is "just trying to make ends meet."
So what you mean by "slums" and "houses" depend on your perceptions and expectations. And those expectations may be unreasonable.
Finally, it is not true that if you kicked out all illegals (which I still would like to see), then the only outcome would be rise in Americans' wages. In some industries that would indeed be the case, but precisely because of that there would be less employment in others. The price of houses would also go up, so that you'd be less capable to own a home "that is not a slum."
I am for no less than kicking out all illegals. Tomorrow. But I have to admit also that that would adversely affect our economy. And you should know that, too.
“Finally, it is not true that if you kicked out all illegals (which I still would like to see), then the only outcome would be rise in Americans’ wages.”
Really, have a link on that?
And it would reduce unemployment of Americans. That is a big plus in my book. Plenty of Freeper are still looking of jobs.
“In some industries that would indeed be the case, but precisely because of that there would be less employment in others.”
Which “others” would there be LESS employment IF illegals were kicked out? That is baloney. Have a link for that two?
“The price of houses would also go up, so that you’d be less capable to own a home “that is not a slum.”
HAHAHA!!! The price of houses would go up if illegals were kicked out - HAHAHA!!! Regardless of the illegals the housing bubble, when it is done bursting, will ITSELF make a house out of the reach of the average American. Illegals will have nothing to do with it.
“I am for no less than kicking out all illegals. Tomorrow.”
No, you really aren’t, your argument is for NOT kicking them out, forked tongue that you are.
“But I have to admit also that that would adversely affect our economy. And you should know that, too.”
Our economy is ALREADY adversely affected. Allowing Americans to work and pay their own way will help to free them from the coming DEBT SLAVERY that is coming.
You lie, in every post I see of yours, you lie.
Does not compute!
They must of changed the dynamics of the district. All I can figure.
