Don’t laugh too hard, they are already putting this plan into action in several states, including WA state and I think Ohio. (I could be wrong on Ohio)

WA state even has special programs for grad schools for minorities that are nothing more than on the job training, no tests. I know a law school grad that never had a test or classroom lecture after the first year, all on the job training.

Testing for competence is racist.

My first reaction is to say I don’t believe you. What does this fool do when the judge tells him to submit something in writing? Find someone to write it? Can this boy speak a full sentence without any umms or ahhs?

“Completely understandable, though better in court than dying because of the incompetence of others.”

Right! Whether it was himself getting killed or maimed due to the incompetence of another fireman or a civilian(s) getting the same, it's why he got out as soon as he could. Sad actually.

The scenario you laid out is an example of a perfect storm of illogical policy unfolding to a tragic end. Disgusting.

“I’m so glad that I’m retired!”

I wish I was; I have a ways to go. Retirees are the only ones left who can say what they want without losing their jobs.

If you’re retired, you wouldn’t even recognize the workplace today; it is like bizarro-world. I receive a lot of sales literature from banks and other financial institutions; nobody featured on them looks like me. There are black and Indian men and women, as well as oriental and white women; if there is a white guy, he’s all the way in the back, looking over the shoulders of three or four “more involved” people. In the meantime, that is not the realistic reflection at all of the people actually getting things done in the workplace. Very creepy, while mildly entertaining. I even had a black male co-worker ridiculing the literature as “politically correct” (with no prompting from me; I could offer nothing but embarrassed silence).

THANK YOU! (caps = friendly sarcasm)

A writing sample can be a great tool in interpreting one’s rudimentary skills, absolutely. Hell, they should be required, but then if they were, we most likely wouldn't be having this conversation.

But, until the outcry becomes deafening, or the wrong person suffers or dies due to this situation, like you said, “Absolutely depressing; no hope.”

Years ago the NJ state troopers eliminated the boxing segment of their training because a female cadet was killed in the ring. The boxing was critical because many of the troopers patrol alone; they HAVE TO be able to defend themselves and their weapons. I guess it just fell through the cracks now...

Firemen in particular have to be able to carry a motionless person out of a building; how do you ignore that? Will it be like the NHL, where the smaller guys are matched up on lines with monsters who can protect them?

Bravo for you!!!

You know what would be great? If you could get a tax deduction/abatement for paying for your own protection. Obviously, from what you wrote, you don't need (or want) taxpayer supported law enforcement “protecting” you; you're doing it yourself, and I'm sure it's not free.

If you cannot defend yourself via your own hands, feet, etc., you have ZERO business being a LEO, man or woman.

Firemen. Exactly. If you cannot pass the physical requirements for basic functions (like being able to carry a motionless person out of a building) what the hell are you doing in that job?

Your NHL analogy would be funny if this entire scenario wasn’t so tragic in nature.

I don’t mind paying for taxpayer supported law enforcement. It gives the criminals something to worry about and they do provide ‘trash removal’, if necessary.

Way to go .. the safety of Dayton citizens now depends on the luck of the draw for their lives and safety .. no matter basic COMPETENCY for the job!

“The city lowered both written exams a combined 15 points that resulted in 258 more people passing the exam, according to a statement released Thursday by Civil Service officials. The agreement allows the city to immediately resume its plans to hire police and firefighters.”

The Administration of Intimidation and Redistribution .. nothing but.

Put it all in perspective and you still get the same thing. Incremental destruction of the country one little piece at a time.

Obamacare, huge deficits, the destruction of the currency, lowering standards at every level from education to police to whatever. I could go on but everyone here gets it.

It's all the regimes attack on America and liberal minions at lower levels chiming in whenever, whereever they have the power to do so.

Miami has been a hell hole for at least 30 years that I can remember.

I was born there and left in 1970 when I saw it was falling apart and imploding at the same time.

Now its a mecca for steel companies who build bars for windows.

The country is headed toward a scenario where you will have states that are worth living in,such as Texas and a few others and states that are not worth living in such as Calllfornyuh and New Yawk.

Sad to see but that's where we are headed. Unless we get some "CHANGE"!!
