On display once again in the wake of the Wisconsin Republican vote to destroy collective bargaining for public workers: the fetish of self-victimization that conservatives seem to possess in spades.
In the aftermath of their most successful power grab in history, Wisconsin Republicans are in some cases too distracted to feel celebratory; instead, they're feeling assaulted and persecuted. Even when they are the very top of the piggy pile, they perceive themselves at the very bottom of it.
Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald, the Wisconsin Assembly speaker and brother of state Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald (whose father was recently appointed by Gov. Scott Walker to run the Wisconsin State Patrol), actually took the floor yesterday to read aloud from some of the death threat emails he and other legislators say they have received.
Yes, that's right. The biggest issue for some Wisconsin Assembly Republicans after voting to undermine public employee unions? Their own safety. So concerned are they that they attempted to make it a big public issue, in much the way that Richard Nixon and his GOP made anti-war protests...

But fair-minded observers also need to regard the following additional context:
1. Politicians of all political persuasions and in all circumstances, not just situations as volatile as the Republicans managed to engineer in Wisconsin, frequently receive threats. That's just reality. It is reality for many modern celebrities.
2. Those threats come from a very, very tiny minority of citizens, and are sometimes just empty threats from very angry people who can't control their emotions.

Yet it is Republicans once again making a big, public, political deal out of all such threats...

Stalinist monkeys don’t have to believe in the crap they throw around. It’s merely a smear tactic.
>>Lincoln was no conservative.<<
Let’s not rehash the Civil War here. My point is that the author is cherry picking “facts” to make a straw man argument.
I’ll note this fools name and never pay his work any attention.
But he supported no Republican presidential candidates after 1956.
Also, Jackie Robinson is called a Republican, but didn't support any Republican presidential candidates after 1960. He voted for Nixon in 1960, but publicly supported Humphrey in 1968.
I am growing weary of the “Thugs” who are hiding behind OUR Constitution while promoting their communist agenda.
I am sick of being terrorized by internal and external enemies while the people I elect to office refuse to protect me.
It’s about time we excercise our god given rights and rights befitted upon us by OUR Constitution.
Do a little Googling for the author’s name, and it quickly becomes apparent that he’s hip deep in Wisconsin union politics and campaign financing, to the point where he was given immunity against campaign finance related charges in 2001 when the Dems were in charge.
I can only imagine what his reaction would be if his celebrity status as a political writer/activist led to similar threats.
When I read this phrase “the fetish of self-victimization” it immediately conjures an image of a trendy idiot, wearing a Marxist beard, who gets a job at Salon because of daddy’s influence. The important point is the university pumps out more crap than a sewage plant.
It’s OK to threaten conservatives. Ask Alec Baldwin.
“I can only imagine what his reaction would be if his celebrity status as a political writer/activist led to similar threats.”
Good point.
Or that the assassin who shot JFK was a COMMUNIST?
Or that the assassin who shot RFK was a PALESTINIAN?
This has got me wondering whether any assassination (or attempted assassination) of a political figure in America has been committed by someone who could legitimately be called "right wing" ?
Probably the Left is eager to label James Earl Ray a "right winger." But afaik the politics in that situation were very murky.
Gee I guess this person would be ok with getting emails telling him how them and their family were going to die in fairly graphic detail? What an idiot and the left seems to have an abundance of them!
