We should never forget that the 40+% of people who voted that they Strongly disagree, are the people who will end up taking us all down. I will not argue why they vote the way they do, in the end, it is irrelevant. The bottom line is they will, as all lemmings do, run us all off the cliff to our financial destruction.

Well at least the Racine teachers get it.....
Maybe they see the writing on the wall?!!!

From the "Most Popular" sidebar story on the poll results page:

Teachers agree to pay freeze

RACINE - Racine Unified and the Racine Education Association teachers' union have reached a tentative contract agreement after only a week of negotiating, the district announced late Tuesday night.

The announcement came after teachers voted Tuesday to approve the tentative agreement. It will go before the Unified School Board tonight and if approved will be official after that. The contract, for fiscal years 2011-13, would take effect this summer.

The tentative contract agreement includes a salary freeze for the two contract years; having employees, who currently contribute nothing toward pensions, contribute half of the state-required amount while the district contributes the other half; and having employees share more health care costs through high-deductible plan changes that could bring cost savings of 13.2 percent to the district, according to a Unified press release.

The agreement also creates a new board of district and union representatives that will meet at least quarterly to consider later changes to the district's health and dental plans; any changes must be approved by 50 percent of the board plus one more person, according to the tentative agreement as provided by Unified.

The creation of such a board is intended to allow the district to maintain a cost-effective and competitive compensation package.

The agreement also includes the formation of a voluntary employee beneficiary association, a program for paying employee health care costs upon separation from the district, especially upon retirement. The idea of such a program was brought forward by the teachers' union in their initial contract proposal.

The tentative contract agreement should help the district reduce its projected budget deficit of $25 million by more than $18 million, the press release said.

Teachers voted to approve the tentative agreement Tuesday night at an emergency union meeting announced Tuesday afternoon and held at about 7 p.m. at Starbuck Middle School, 1516 Ohio St.
