Recall Group Banned From City Hall
Story Updated: Mar 14, 2011

MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) -- Marinette's mayor says a group trying to recall state Senator Dave Hansen is not allowed in city hall.

Those trying to recall the Democratic senator wanted to circulate petitions at Marinette City Hall as they're doing in Oconto and Green Bay. But, Mayor Bob Harbick says he doesn't want the same kind of disruption that's happened at the Capitol in Madison. Harbick says his decision is logical and non-partisan. The mayor also says he doesn't believe in what the group is trying to do.

Harbick tells the Marinette EagleHerald when someone is voted into office, he or she should be given the chance to do their job within the elected term.

The group trying to recall Hansen says it's doing so because the senator stayed in Illinois during the budget repair vote and failed to show up for work.

The mayor also says he doesn't believe in what the group is trying to do.

Not sure that feeling that way is sufficient to barr people from entering a public building.

If the recall of State reps is in Wisconsin law and this group is legally registered with this petition, then the mayor is wrong.

the mayor is counting on the group not having money to say otherwise in a courtroom. The mayor ignores the law and can comfortably disregard the law because court cases are expensive.

So did the lapdog press ask the obvious follow-up, if the mayor then is against the recall efforts against the republican senators who did their elected job, stayed and did represent their constituents?

Why would I expect the liberal media to ask objective follow up questions to a liberal mayor?

The Mayor called Obama? Really? I doubt that Obama has time to make all these decisions. You give Obama way too much credit. The last two Presidents were incredible with there abilities to get things done. President Bush and Obama are absolutely amazing according to Democrats for President Bush and Obama by the Republicans. Way too much credit.

It's about time
for a D.C.-sized contention of the
          "TEA Party Movement" to
              descend on Wisconsin.

Recalls are the only recourse to get rid of a truly awful politicians.

It is law. Can any law be applied incorrectly? Of course. But the other thing is recalls are very difficult to do. They are designed that way on purpose. It’s a lot harder to recall someone than elect someone.

I would not have the same opinion of just letting someone finish a term if they really needed to be recalled.

I bleieve the 14 senators who fled deserve to be recalled. Personally I would have declared their seats vacant, their refusal to show up their official resignations, and asked the Governor to imediately issue a writ of special elections for those seats.

Whether any are recalled, is a different matter.

While I think it’s clear the mayor is biased here, I also don’t think a city hall must dedicate space for every group asking for space to do something.

Tea Party patriots won’t cause the kind of “disruption” caused by the fleebaggers in Madison. They will act like adults, not scum.

They RAN AWAY, you twit! They had a chance to “do their job within their elected term”....and they responded by choosing to not do their jobs.

The mayor must be in the union pocket as well. No regard for a representative republic.

WI, can’t you come up with better than these clods??

Personally I’d use the rejection to my advantage.

Stand out in front of city hall for petitions, with signs saying the mayor won’t let us in for taking petition signatures.

Besides since you know the guy is against you, he can’t have anyone lurking down there to see what you’re doing, how you’re doing, and pass that info along to other dems.

Also I would have people in front of the Marinette post office(s) with signs and clipboards. Perhaps at their biggest grocery stores.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression.

What part of this does the mayor disagree with?

I was commenting on the mentality of government workers and leftists in 2011.

Just think: we have reached a point in this country where our government is actually talking to us and treating us like this!

This mayor wants us to the think he's non-partisan? Give me a break.

If the story was reversed - if it were a Tea Party Mayor trying to stop the unions from recalling a Republican Senator the narrative of this story would be very, very different - and everyone knows it.
