JUAN WILLIAMS: It's Time to Defund NPR
Fox News ^ | March 14, 201 | Juan Williams

Posted on 03/14/2011 1:24:27 PM PDT by Lazamataz

It just keeps happening. NPR's leadership keeps tripping over its microphone wires and then asking everybody else to plug them back in.

I know everybody thinks I must be in a vindictive mood, celebrating the sudden departure of NPR CEO Vivian Schiller after her hand-picked personal fundraiser was caught on tape disparaging Tea Party activists, Jews and taking more shots at me. I'm human and do have some thoughts but it's okay to keep them to myself.

I will not slander her in the way that she impugned my intellect and my integrity with condescending comments after my firing. She said my comments on Fox News violated journalistic ethics and should have been kept between "him and his psychiatrist or his publicist." Schiller's missteps have been very public and all too visible to the world, allowing everyone to draw their own conclusions about her.

I'm not being vindictive when I say that NPR leadership had become ingrown and arrogant to the point that they lost sight of journalism as the essential product of NPR. People like Schiller and Ellen Weiss, the head of news for NPR, who made it her life's work to fire me, came to think of themselves as smarter than anyone else. They felt no need to answer to any critic. No other point of view had any importance to them. They came to personify anti-intellectual resentment and arrogance in journalism. Any approach at variance with their own was considered traitorous and a basis for exiling them to the Gulag or in my case, firing me.

And yet, Juan will still be a liberal, sadly. :-(

I hope that PBS and NPR *are* defunded and go away...or else that evil CAPITALISM rears it’s ugly head and saves the day when donors respond to keep them running...will all those liberals care enough to do that? Remains to be seen...

Juan knows the liberal underbelly - he's got their number.

“came to think of themselves as smarter than anyone else”

No reason to call oneself “liberal” other than this.

Let him substitute CNN, or NBC, or CBS or ABC, or NYT for NPR in his comments

The worst thing about Juan being fired by NPR: He is on FNC all the time. I used to view Williams as a rationale liberal; then Obama got elected.

I wonder if Juan Williams made his remarks before or after the report came out, which I heard about last night, showing the original interview had been seriously cut and edited and assembled in the most prejudicial way possible. The person discussing this issue said that listening to the entire taping without any cuts showed a significantly different slant to the remarks and overall interview. A technical analysis showed the numerous cuts that had been made in the reassembled tape.

My daughter is an NPR fan, and we were once stuck in a rental car together ... for three days ... listening mainly to NPR on the road.

Needless to say, she didn’t know much about what is really going on in America; and she pays much better attention to things these days.

Now Juan's opinion changes.

The argument against government funding of ANY media has been solid since 1776. Do all liberals have to be mugged by their own before acquiring a modicum of common sense?

Liberals HATE Juan Williams because he is one of the few liberals who can have a civil, intelligent conversation with conservatives...

...without name calling and adhominem attacks.

Liberals do think that a condescending profane utterance means they “won” the argument, most times.

Another David Horowitz in the making?

Hell no.

Juan was mugged by the libs when he wrote his book about education, but he rolled over, put his butt up in the air and axed for it again.

Juan Williams may still hold dopey liberal views but he certainly got it right about the corporate mindset of NPR. A leftist organization brooking absolutely no dissent from the egalitarian liberal line and aimed at effete upper middle class liberals while pretending to be both inclusive as well as objective. Even partially funding NPR with taxpayer money is an insult to working Americans and needs to be ended, now.

DSome day Juan Williams may wake up and discover that he was never a liberal. He just thought that if he said the right words and did the right things he would be accepted. What he is finding is that if you are not 100% dedicated to the cause, there is no room for you and that you are just another useful idiot.
