I found this interesting analysis of the Japanese earthquake at the atomic engineering forum. It has photos so i post the link

Was the Japanese earthquake triggered by Japanese atomic bomb test detonation?

It would take one HUGE nuke to do create that size of wave and produce all that damage. Larger than what is in any inventory in any country.

The logistics of drilling a hole big enough and deep enough to place a device with enough yield to do such damage would have been detected.

This stuff is total fantasy.

......but I would like someone to explain that whirlpool...it really does look like the big bathtub being drained into Hades.

It's called cropping a photo so that you can't see the structures causing an eddy to form.

My wife had an interesting theory. If you suddenly pop up the North American plate, you might get a cavity or two below that water could drain into. The other theory is that the crutal motion that produced the tsunami also created large turbulence with crosscurrents, not unlike tornado formation, hence a funnel. I like the cavity theory because it’s scarier, but the turbulence theory is probably correct.

It's called an eddy. It's caused when the main current goes one way but something causes a portion to peel off and go the other way. In this case, the something was structures cropped from the photo.

If you look at the video of that vortex, you'll see that it formed between two breakwaters that were far apart on the landward end and close together on the seaward end. It also formed when water from earlier waves was draining out at the same time that water from new waves was coming in.

Sounds like a good vortex generator to me -- especially if the incoming waves entered the narrow opening at an angle...

Actually the whirlpool is easy to explain.

First, find a larger area picture of the whirlpool - they seem to be purposely cropped to make look like open sea...

There’s a sea wall near this forming a harbor (or protected water area) with an opening on one end to the open sea. When the tsunami water went rushing by the open end it spun the water in the harbor forming a whirlpool.

9.32 teratons to be exact. That is 600 million Hiroshima weapons.
