1456: Tepco says it may start pouring water from a helicopter over Fukushima Daiichi's reactor four in the next few days, to cool the spent-fuel pool.
1439: A 30km (18 mile) no-fly zone is in place around Fukushima, says the IAEA.
1436: The IAEA says Monday's blast at Fukushima may have affected the integrity of the containment vessel - there are fears of more serious radioactive leaks if happen.
1435: Following earlier reports, it appears there has been more than one strong aftershock in Japan - AP reports two tremors measuring over 6.0 within three minutes of each other.

I made that connection over the weekend.....scary if the tread does continue....sooner or later the Cascadia fault system will let loose, how bad? Only God knows....
I blame some of the possible panic out there n Matt Drudge, who linked to Alex Jones’ fear-mongering.
That 360 Cooper guy on CNN was IN JAPAN acting all Whorealdo Rivera like. It is like they are thrilled and filming a movie. MSNBC only breaks in from Japan news to report the evil republicans in WI holding “OBAMA ROCKS” signs.
Meanwhile Obama bets on the BB game and golfs and vacations with his family to S America. He will now call it business.
I don’t know but I have a feeling they may just bulldoze it out to sea and try to create an artificial breakwater in the hopes of shielding the area in the future.
Of course you really cannot build on it, you could burn it. But then again they may just start a massive salvage operation and sort it all out, make up some massive temporary tent cities and then put the people to work cleaning it up.
If that happens it would be interesting the take on what America thinks.
It is hard to tell when to panic about anything because of our propagandist media. And the ones folks lik (ed) to call kooky,WND, Jones all warned of globalization and the new world currency before it was news. Bees Y2K and such were media produced crap.

I just listend to Megyn Kelly interview an American who lives in Japan but took his family to Singapore out of concern. He was saying that when Japanese government officials and/or TEPCO employees go on camera to give updates that they sometimes have tears in their eyes and will hardly look at the camera. It’s understandably scaring the Japanese people.
P.S. I’d trust infowars,WND, Sam Hill’s, blog before I would CNN and the MSM playing all Whorealdo Rivera dramatic-like.

For those who are interested, here is what they report so far :
The lesson so far: Japan suffered an earthquake and tsunami of unprecedented proportion that has caused unbelievable damage to every part of their infrastructure, and death of very large numbers of people. The media have chosen to report the damage to a nuclear plant which was, and still is, unlikely to harm anyone. We won’t know for sure, of course, until the last measure to assure cooling is put in place, but that’s the likely outcome. You’d never know it from the parade of interested anti-nuclear activists identified as “nuclear experts” on TV.
From the early morning Saturday nuclear activists were on TV labelling this ‘the third worst nuclear accident ever’. This was no accident, this was damage caused by truly one of the worst of earthquakes and tsunamis ever. (The reported sweeping away of four entire trains, including a bullet train which apparently disappeared without a trace, was not labelled “the third worst train accident ever.”) An example of the reporting: A fellow from one of the universities, and I didn’t note which one, obviously an engineer and a knowlegable one, was asked a question and began to explain quite sensibly what was likely. He was cut off after about a minute, maybe less, and an anti-nuke, very glib, and very poorly informed, was brought on. With ponderous solemnity, he then made one outrageous and incorrect statement after another. He was so good at it they held him over for another segment
The second lesson is to the engineers: We all know that the water reactor has one principal characteristic when it shuts down that has to be looked after. It must have water to flow around the fuel rods and be able to inject it into the reactor if some is lost by a sticking relief valve or from any other cause – for this, it must have backup power to power the pumps and injection systems.
The designers apparently could not imagine a tsunami of these proportions and the backup power — remember, the plants themselves produce power, power is brought in by multiple outside power lines, there are banks of diesels to produce backup power, and finally, banks of batteries to back that up, all were disabled. There’s still a lot the operators can do, did and are doing. But reactors were damaged and may not have needed to be even by this unthinkable earthquake if they had designed the backup power systems to be impregnable, not an impossible thing for an engineer to do. So we have damage that probably could have been avoided, and reporting of almost stunning inaccuracy and ignorance.Still, the odds are that no one will be hurt from radioactivity — a few workers from falling or in the hydrogen explosions, but tiny on the scale of the damage and killing around it.
It seems pathetic that Russia should be the only reported adult in this — they’re quoted as saying “Of course our nuclear program is not going to be affected by an earthquake in Japan.” Japan has earthquakes. But perhaps it will be, if the noise is loud enough.

I love apocalyptic thriller type movies, no matter how bad or campy or even leftist (I even liked The Day After Tomorrow, despite the eye-rolling premise), but I couldn’t finish watching 2012. It was actually boring.
Did anyone tell bonehead Obama that Japan desperately pleaded for a nuke scientist or two and general help? He is packing for vacation in between betting on BBall and golf.

Two things are obvious to me. It's not going to be the end of times but it will in all honesty in my opinion be worse than Chernobyl in the fact that we are dealing with 6 reactors worth of nuclear fuel radiation in some degree(isotope) or another and well yes not explosive but one hell of a mess.
I understand the heroic nature of those involved at the plants but by most accounts the reactors residual heat(decay) battle seems to be based on a wing and a prayer solution basis.
Regardless of what happens from here on out, I am going to stick to the prayer part of that equation and hope for the best.

In a resource poor Island, much could be recycled. Building materials in particular. Wood, trees into fiber board. Masonry and concrete would make good fill.

There may not be a subduction zone in So Calif but thee certainly is one off Oregon coast which could send a tsunami south.

Why couldn't they fly in backup generators from the git go???
I mean, they can fly heavy trucks by helocopter, why not generator units?? Restore the power and the problem fixes itself.
I just don't get it I guess. But then I'm not in the center seat over there.
After the 1964 Alaska quake they had to move a town. I hope that there is some sort of plan to either engineer a possible GREATER tsunami wall (if possible) or to build up the new areas where the main population will be at a higher elevation.
It would be a terrible mistake to rebuild these cities and then they have an identical earthquake and tsunami.
You know even having a discussion like this gives me a problem, I’m still in a sympathetic state of shock at all of this.
