Confidence in the U.S. system of government has dropped to a new low in more than 35 years, with public attitudes burdened by continued economic discontent, soaring gasoline prices, record opposition to the war in Afghanistan -- and a letdown in hopes for political progress after a bout of bipartisanship last fall.

Almost as many, 23 percent, are pessimistic, the closest these measures ever have come. The rest, a record high, are "uncertain" about the system.

it’s when you glom on socialistic bs that a country craters.

the problem, as in ALL other countries that have adopted similar methods... is ALWAYS socialism / marxism / progressivism / communism

The Marxists in our midst want a dictator who can “get things done”. ABC and the rest of the media have become openly hostile to the Constitution. They want the “fundamental change” they were promised. The 53% of us who voted for O want action now.

The Republicans act much the same as Democrats when they are in power. It remains to be seen if they have gotten the message from the last election. People have not seen any improvement in the economy since the last election, and people always expect government to solve their problems. Of course, what would work is for government to get out of their lives, but they don’t understand that.

Also, we are tired of these wars without purpose in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why are we there? What is the goal? How long are we going to see young Americans come home maimed or in coffins just to prop up Maliki and Karzai?

Unfortunately, it is not made clear that the portion of the U.S. system of government that is causing a loss in confidence is socialist mob rule,...........oh, pardon me, I mean democracy.

I suggest you read the entire survey. According to this poll, the public trusts Obama more on the economy than the Reps. The entire poll is a real downer for Reps. Obama is given a 51-45 approval rating.

Well, if our "dear leaders" would comply with their sworn oaths and observe the U.S. Constitution, these numbers would vastly improve.

obama's and his administration's selective enforcement and un-Constitutional actions regards the laws on the books have led to this drop.

People do not like the kinds of surprises he has imposed on us all.

If they are not trusting govt, who are they trusting?

Change "they" to "we" or "I" and I have my answer. I trust myself and the individual to do the right thing - so long as the governement quits telling me the kind of toilets, toilet paper, light bulbs, and gasoline I can use.
