Governments across the world are today urging their nationals to leave Tokyo as soon as possible amid fresh safety fears.
The U.K. Foreign Office is recommending that all Britons leave the area for their own safety, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade recommended citizens who don't need to be in Japan leave and France told its citizens with no reason to stay in Tokyo to get out.
But the White House has not yet told Americans to get out of Tokyo, although it is 'working around the clock (to) determine the whereabouts and well-being' of U.S. citizens there.
The pleas from foreign governments came as the crisis at the Fukushima nuclear plant in north-east Japan worsened, with the chief of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) warning tonight that all the cooling water has gone from one of the spent fuel pools.
That means there is nothing to stop the fuel rods getting hotter and ultimately melting down. The outer shell of the rods could also ignite with enough force to propel the radioactive fuel inside over a wide area.
Gregory Jaczko did not say how the information was obtained, but the NRC and U.S. department of energy both have experts on site at the Fukushima complex of six reactors. He said officials believe radiation levels are extremely high, and that could affect workers' ability to stop temperatures escalating.
Frantic attempts to cool down the reactors at the Fukushima plant following Friday's earthquake and tsunami had to be suspended after high radiation levels were recorded. Technicians later returned, but it was another setback in Japanese efforts to avoid a nuclear catastrophe.

Because Obama doesn’t care, as long as he’s on vacay or partying or bowing somewhere in the world. He’s not an American, why should he care about the fate of Americans abroad.
I’m upset about something at home and reading this article just made me cry. Hence my aggressive post, sorry. :)
With golf and packing for the Rio trip,he just doesn’t have the time to be bothered with small details like nuke meltdowns and civil wars in Islamic countries.
It’s all a matter of priorities.
