In the mid-1990s, many tabloids reported throughout the decade that he was actually having an affair with longtime friend and collaborator Trisha Yearwood. The two have continually denied having had an affair. Following Brooks’s divorce, however, the pair did begin dating, and the couple wed on December 10, 2005, at their home in Oklahoma, marking the second marriage for Brooks and the third for Yearwood. They own a house in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and a house in Malibu, California, and Port St. Lucie, FL but keep a primary residence at a ranch in Owasso, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa where they live.

In the early years Garth was very good. Then, over the past 10 years he started to introduce more and more “black” sounds into his C&W and that’s when he lost me.
He tried to use is influence to actually change C&W into some type of multicultural “save the world” type of music.
There is a song written about the change by the name of “Murder on Music Row.” By Alan Jackson. He was talking about the people like Garth who wanted to do away with our traditional C&W music.

In the ‘80s, country was smooth crossover like Eddie Rabbit, Restless Heart, and Alabama. I never liked his music, but I guess he’s notable for bringing the redneck twang back to country. Ironic, since he always said he was a rock fan at heart.

I blame Garth, Reba , Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, and all these other “stars” of today for the death of country music.
Give me oldies or Carolina beach music any day.
Well of course being from Alabama, my fav country acts are Hank Jr. and the Alabama band. Both pretty much done for now days. Their old stuff is on my CDs so I can at least relive the 70s & 80s, when both had good stuff.

Brooks, who has apparently forgotten that Obama once said his iPod contains “everything but Garth Brooks.”
“The whole political system kind of has me concerned right now to tell you the truth — 200 years old and we might think of about, you know, kind of kicking it in the ass a little bit,” said the singer. “It just seems like we vote for things because they’re Republican or Democratic… I think we should vote for [politicians and laws] because they’re right or wrong and we kind of have seemed to have fallen into that trap.”

Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Reba pay tribute to President George H.W. Bush in “A Celebration of Service”
On Monday, the Points of Light Institute hosted “All Together Now – A Celebration of Service” at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., to honor President George H. W. Bush for his visionary leadership in the American service movement.
The tribute was taped, and portions of it will air at 7 p.m. Monday, March 28 on NBC (KFOR-4 in Oklahoma
The event brought together all four former presidents for the first time since the inauguration of President Obama. President William J. Clinton served as the event’s honorary co-chairman. He was joined by President and Mrs. George W. Bush and President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter.
The star-studded lineup also together some of the biggest acts in country music, soul and rock in a unique program celebrating the powerful role voluntary service can play in overcoming the challenges our communities face in the 21st century. “All Together Now – A Celebration of Service” featured performances by Oklahoma natives Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood, along with Sheryl Crow, Cee Lo Green, Sam Moore, Brad Paisley, Kid Rock and Darius Rucker.

"Murder on Music Row" is indeed a great song and the lyrics aptly summarize what went wrong on 16th Avenue (as it will always be known to me).
Back when C&W was true to its roots and before it became diluted, it was largely unapologetically pro-American and stood for God as well as Conservative principles. Back in the pre-Garth era, it was also very un-politically correct as exemplified by Guy Drake's great Welfare Cadillac.
I do think its ironic that in American Honky-Tonk Bar Association, he sings for the “over-taxed.” In that song he also says:
When Uncle Sam dips in your pocket
For most things you don’t mind
But when your dollar goes to all of those
Standing in a welfare line
Well rejoice you have a voice
Yet he supports the welfare and tax party.
Dissonance will kill the American psyche.

Well, i was going to go through my music collection, and get new cds of everything he has since i have nothing to play my old garth tapes on now... now i’m torn wether to burn mp3s to cd, buy used cds at PacRats, or use my freebies through BMG to finish the collection, so at least a rat supporter doesn’t get a dime of my hard earned dough.
Yeah let me tell ya, this has me torn. I have an original of his self titled album autographed when he performed live at Libby’s over in Daysville, I have No Fences on vinyl, I actually have a copy of Ropin The Wind on 8 track, everything else by him is a tape copy, except for Sevens and In Pieces which I have on CD... tuff decision indeed...
