What's Really Behind Obama's New Push for Gun Control?
Fox News ^ | March 24, 2011 | John R. Lott Jr.

Posted on 03/24/2011 2:43:07 PM PDT by JohnRLott

Despite the Libyan crisis and ongoing problems with America's massive deficit, last week President Obama decided it was time to focus on gun control. He wrote an op-ed, challenged the NRA to negotiate new gun control regulations, and met with gun control groups.

Of course, Obama's op-ed says he supports gun rights. Yet, he also emphasizes that he doesn't want people to "shout at one another" and supports "reasonable laws." Alas, this is simply positioning for the 2012 presidential election and does not accurately describe his true agenda on gun control.

Obama claimed in his op-ed: “My administration has not curtailed the rights of gun owners, it has expanded them, including allowing people to carry their guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.” But he conveniently forgot to mention that he never initiated or supported this legislation. Instead, it was forced upon Obama by a large majority of Congress passing an amendment to a bill that he wanted passed, the “Cardholders’ Bill of Rights Act of 2009.” Just because Obama wasn’t willing to veto a bill he wanted hardly shows support for the right to self-defense.

Indeed, Obama has been a consistent opponent of gun ownership. . . .

Obama is a tyrant. An incompetent, unqualified, Muslim Marxist who would love to disarm us and make it easier for George Soros to complete his work and destroy the USA. He’ll never get my guns.

The only way I’d ever believe this dummy wrote an op-ed is if I gave him a piece of paper and a pencil, selected the subject matter, and watched him actually write it.

IMHO, so he can turn the subject of the possible last Space Shuttle flight ( and demise of the US Manned Space Program )into the AZ congresswoman's post shooting attempt to watch her husband fly to a non-stop MSM gun control debate.

Hardly ever do background checks deny guns to criminals. Over 99.9 percent of purchases initially flagged as being illegal under the law were “false positives” – law-abiding citizens incorrectly identified as banned individuals.

Take the numbers for 2008, the latest year with data available. The 78,906 initial denials resulted in only 147 cases involving banned individuals trying to purchase guns being referred to prosecutors. Of those 147 cases, prosecutors thought the evidence was strong enough to prosecute only 105, and they won convictions in just 43.

On the lighter brighter side, criminals - those people who DON'T use the current 'gun control' system, can get a gun in less than 30 minutes in any average size city...

So he can’t be overthrown?

Throwing a bone to his left wing gun activists?

Deflecting the fact it was a left wing nutjob who shot a left-wing congressman because she wasn’t liberal enough?

Building up his rep as anti-gun for 2012?

All this and more.

What's Really Behind Obama's New Push for Gun Control?

Tyranny. The total suppression of dissent and the means to dissent. It's a simple as that. 0bamas minders know that we must be silenced and disarmed before they can proceed with the rest. We are dealing with monsters - killers without conscience.

There is only one way this can end.

“My administration has not curtailed the rights of gun owners, it has expanded them, including allowing people to carry their guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.”

Only because it was attached to a must-pass credit card bill, and because he hoped it would backfire and justify more restrictions.

Yes, good catch. When you hear a politician use the word "allow" get nervous.

When you hear it from a muslim who's doing his best to cripple the west, hoping to close the gap with his brothers in backward Arabia, beware.

A free people are loved by a government that recognizes their natural right to self-defense (among others), and hated by the one that doesn't. We, in the west, don't do hate- we embrace freedom and individual rights with a respect that leads to advances not shared by muslim or communist countries. The differences are readily apparent and of no concern to us, really.

As societies go, choose your weapon but don't complain if it fails. We made our choice and no fraud in the White House or black-robed imposter may alter it without the consent of the governed. "You listening, Elena?"

Adolf Hitler disarmed the public before he started killing Jews. Given that the left still wants to kill Jews (and conservatives), I contend that the goals of Obambi and the left are the same as were the goals of Hitler - extermination of those that don’t agree.

You do have to wonder if this is just a setup response to any of the Gunwalker allegations.

Given this push, they can simply say that the Gunwalker investigation is meant to derail “Commonsense”
[Notice that it’s ALWAYS “Commonsense” to disarm the law-abiding for the Leftists]Gun safety legislation.

Always keep in mind that this is like a chess game – the Gun grabbers are thinking of 3 – 4 moves in advance.

Think about how much easier it would be for them to implement such an order if they already knew what each and every gun owner had in their possession.

Now, consider what move would they want to make at this point to give them that information….

They’ve gone about as far as they can go toward communism with 0bamacare and ignoring the judge’s ruling to not implement it.

Any “next steps” will require that those who would resist don’t have the means to do so.

Yup, someone else commented that armed we at least have a chance at maintaining liberty, disarmed we have no chance and would have to submit – that is the Left’s dream scenario.

To extend my remarks on the previous comment on an Obama executive order banning guns – they would be able to do that now, but it would be extremely messy.

So they have to figure that they can make a few important moves to lay the groundwork for confiscation to grease the skids later on. Besides, they’re got some squishy RINO’s on board supporting some of these first “Baby Steps”.

Everyone remember - they don’t have the resources to get everyone, every gun, in the “first wave”.

If you’re a target of the first wave, STAY FREE.
If that means giving up your firearms, do it, and get away.

Other patriots will have a “spare” for you, and you’ll soon have the spoils from repelling the “second wave” attempt to disarm folks, which will be met with organized resistance.

I really wouldn’t want to be on the gov’t’s side in that second wave.

To: MrB

I would agree with the idea of having a spare set. If fact it would be an excellent idea for any many as possible to have two sets of guns.

One set for your immediate defense in your home.

And, the other set…. Well, lets just say that if enough people have a second set stashed away, that set will effectively protect the first. Because it will be impossible for them to grab them all, and this will help deter them from taking this drastic action in the first place.

They may in any event, but they will have to know from the onset that it will be a fool’s errand.

There is reason suppliers have begun to made and sell waterproof containers that can be hidden away.

Think about how much easier it would be for them to implement such an order if they already knew what each and every gun owner had in their possession.

Exactly. Got a couple hundred on hand, two or three hundred saved up? I would (did) pick up an extra secondhand pistol at a nearby gun show -- private sale, look for one you can buy from a private individual "in your caliber". Even if it's just a secondhand Bryco .380 or something.

Your pieces at home eat .45 ACP? Well, match that ammo supply with another piece, a backup gun like an AMT or similar -- it doesn't have to be a Para-Ordnance or Kimber, as long as it's a decent example. If you can afford a second Kimber, well, goody for you -- but the idea of shopping secondhand and downmarket is to make sure you can afford the extra piece that makes it more likely you'll keep the first one -- as you pointed out, it's really more a Fact on the Ground and a headache for grabbers, than anything else. And as always, BLOAT.

Totalitarians don’t like guns in hands of the “cattle”.
It makes them feel insecure and not as superior as they might feel if guns were eliminated.

It’s time to re-read the constitution, again, and again and again until it becomes second nature. It’s the insecticide for tyranny.

IMHO
