A suburban townhouse where a dozen Chinese 'maternity tourists' paid $35,000 to stay and have their babies born in America, has been shut down.

When authorities in Los Angeles raided the home in St Gabriel, they found 10 newborn children and 17 converted bedrooms, including one in the garage.

U.S. law automatically entitles children born on American soil to citizenship and it is not illegal for pregnant women to visit to give birth.

Maternity tourism?! Scams like this make two U.S. citizen parents that much more important for presidential eligibility. How I wish we could get a ruling.

Not sure if this will make anyone feel better, but most of these Chinese will take their babies back to China to raise them; what they want is an emergency escape route when the kid is grown up, or if there is an implosion & counterrevolution in China before that.

Heh. Something resembling a zoning violation.

On the point of citizenship and natural born citizenship, the requirement of having citizen parents has been implicitly rejected by Congress, when they accepted Obama's admission to dual citizenship on account of his father.

When I was a visa officer at the US Embassy in Manila, I was very tough on pregnant women who wanted to visit the US “for a vacation.” I almost never issued them a visa. All of my fellow visa officers had the same attitude. Word got out on the street that pregnant women couldn’t get a visa. Soon we were seeing women who were obviously pregnant attempting to explain their appearance by saying they were just overweight. I still denied them a visa. Occasionally, I would require one to get a doctor’s certificate that she wasn’t pregnant. I never heard back from such applicants.

My understanding is that the sale of these US citizen vacations is to give the child the opportunity to move to the USA. I suppose in some cases the parents are also looking out for themselves, hoping to piggyback themselves onto the child's right to US residence (and education).

Just to emphasize, the bust in this case isn't on account of birthright citizenship vacations. The bust was against doing business without a state/city license; operating what amounts to a hotel without the requisite permits.

This is how a lot of wealthier Chinese families get around the one child policy. If the pregnant woman comes here it’s a lot harder for the Chinese officials to force her to have an abortion. Most of them take the children back to China. I’ve heard missionaries to China talk about this practice. It’s how some of the Chinese Christians are able to have larger families.

............three Cali upscale townhouses operated as a maternity center for Chinese mothers paying $35,000 to stay there----their families paid their fare to get them here so they could have their babies born in America; the children would automatically gain US citizenship......

Why would they fork out thousands of dollars to give birth here? B/c it's an investment for the lucrative future---when the US tax dollars start rolling in.

Those "anchor babies" give the mother, father and extended family free entry into the US----they then all get on the US gravy train, and suckup benefits from here to eternity.

RIDING THE US GRAVY TRAIN They pay no income tax, so each year, they can file an Income Tax Return to get "EITC---earned income credit" of up to $3,200 scot-free.

They qualify for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent, food stamps and no deductible, no co-pay free health care.

Children get free school breakfasts and lunches and kids qualify for monthly SSI checks, by faking ADD; the elders get SSI if they fake being aged, blind or disabled; SSI qualifies them for free Medicare.

Plus they don't worry about pricey items like car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance, and qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

ALL OF THAT IS COLLECTED WITH JUST ONE IDENTITY Evidence shows these people establish several identities with phony SS nos and fake documents (which they buy from document brokers for several thousand dollars).

A number of years back a story was run about this being popular with S Koreans where they would take maternity vacations. Allowing the child to be born here and then take back to Korea. After the child had grown they would then emigrate back to the US with the aging parents in tow so that the elderly could take advantage of the benefits in the US..

Still see pics in my mind of the 93yr old Cuban man from the mariel boat lift. When interviewed on tv the person assisting him was asked what will be the first thing he does. The person replied: Take him to file for social security!

You are correct, but I’m just pointing out that these people aren’t planning to move here now, but years in the future. And of course even that will depend on unforeseeable economic and political conditions in both countries. They think of it as a form of insurance.

Good point about where the kid will be raised, and the likely allegience to the US that such an upbringing will produce.

Plus, the ones with enough cash to do this are probably going to do a pretty good job of raising and educating the kid, and are *highly* unlikely to become drains on the country if they come here.

Smart people giving their kids and themselves an ‘escape plan’; that's a far cry from ‘anchor babies’.

our immigration policy should have one and only one goal: to brain drain the rest of the world while encouraging assimilation.

Several years ago I was in the hospital business office trying to work out payment for a proceedure. The woman admitted that the patient before me skipped out of the country without paying so ta-da! My bill was being padded to make up the difference. But don’t get me started !#^%%&(&@#$%!

From a crappy response I received from John F’n Kerry after my complaints about illegal aliens using our benefits and resources:

NB: Use haughty tone and read aloud for authenticity..

.....”Illegal immigrants are not eligible for any federal assistance programs. However, for legal immigrants who meet specific criteria, there are limited resources available to assist families obtain food, housing and other critical needs.

I remain committed to comprehensive immigration reform and will continue to work with my colleagues and the President to adopt long-term solutions to our nation’s immigration problems.”

Kerry says "I remain committed to comprehensive immigration reform and will continue to work with my colleagues and the President to adopt long-term solutions to our nation’s immigration problems.”

RESPONSE TO KERRY: "I remain committed to comprehensive reform of the US Senate and the presidency; I will continue to work with my fellow citizens to adopt long-term solutions to our nation’s political problems which are exemplified by your response to my concerns."

The good thing about illegals is they would NEVER lie on an application - or used a forged social security card. /S

Nope, the one thing we know about 'illegals' is they don't break the law... /s

So Hanoi John is for changing the laws that allow illegals to enter the country and get away with grand larceny. He knows damn well nothing in essence will change.
