MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Marquette University in Milwaukee will begin offering domestic partner benefits to its employees beginning next year.

The move by the Catholic, Jesuit university comes about a year after the school rescinded a job offer to a lesbian and scholar at Seattle University. Marquette officials said at the time, rescinding the job offer to Jodi O'Brien had nothing to do with her sexual orientation. But, it triggered heated debate on campus over the issue.

This action should end Marquette’s status as a Catholic University. I pray to God it does.

The move by the Catholic, Jesuit university

The Jesuits have always been the 'Peck's Bad Boys' of the Catholic Church. No change is in sight.

For sure anybody that supports this kind of thing, simply does not have the Spirit of The Lord Jesus Christ within them!

This is not even debatable!

Catholic, Jesuit

There's an oxymoron. They should have been excommunicated 300 years ago. That's the Catholic Church's fault for chartering so many orders.

Orthodoxy requires rigid hierarchy.

This is such a stupid act....to declare the Bible “hate speech”.

Better yet, they are saying Man is god and rewriting the Bible. What absolute fools to think that human nature “evolves” and that something so intrinsically disordered should be celebrated. They have sick-twisted minds and no regard for Objective Truth.

not to burst anyone's bubble... BUT if you went to Catholic school as a youngster ... do you ever wonder what became of the nuns?

think about it... dwell on it ... where do the nuns live now? ... in Boston many ex-nuns live together in apartments and work outside the church...

but that does not eliminate the fact that most of those women are lesbians

so I think * the calling * meant that those people knew they were attracted to the same gender ... and possibly behind closed doors ... durr ...

priests too... only they allowed all manner of perverts in their ranks

if you're Catholic doesn't it make you feel great that you were supporting pervs through your donations all those years?

There are at least 25 other Catholic colleges and universities that do the same, I believe.

If such nonsense ever happens at Harding University, they'll be getting much more than just a strongly worded letter from me. So far, I haven't seen much evidence of creeping liberalism at church of Christ colleges, although Pepperdine (in Malibu) shades a bit to left on the continuum compared to solidly Conservative Harding and Oklahoma Christian.

By the way, I went back for a visit to Harding in Searcy, AR a few months ago and chatted with a number of students. Not surprisingly, opposition to Obama was unanimous according to my informal poll.

I went to Catholis grade and high school with nuns. You’re painting a broad brush stroke there. Most nuns dedicate their lives to Christ.

What beacme of them? The same that became of everything else sacred and holy in the catholic church: it became
....folksy.

My Pastor went to Rome to meet Pope John Paul II. There were five other priests in his group. One was introduced to the Pope as a Jesuit. The Pontif then asked, “but are you a Catholic?”

Why do they bother caling themselves Catholic? The Church doing nothing about this is scandalous to real adherents of the RC Church! And it’s wondered why
people are leaving in droves. . . because there’s no longer any there there!

But it won't. The Catholic leadership won't stand by the courage of their convictions. They are just a bunch of pansies. Yes, they are pansies!

That is a very poor title. Deliberate attempt to deceive by the Columbian newspaper or example of ignorance?

The Jesuits have been following a different path for decades, but I thought this article was about Catholic U in DC, which is still fairly strong in traditional dogma.
