Anyone who can cheat at an observed chess match deserves an award for spectacular individual achievement.

Did the messages say what pieces the opponent had on the board, and where they were?

I have played for 40 years.
It is impossible to cheat at chess if the opponent does not take his eye off the board. In such case, a viable opponent will immediately recognize the situation when looking back.
The only true way the cheat at the game is by reading the mind of the opponent.
Text messages describing response strategy to situation will grant no favor. It is sometimes likely that that known strategic positions of assault or defense, and known textbook response, are in fact intended to lure one into predictable position.
Then you are mine.
