The NYT artcile linked below takes on the air of child-like wonder when the author seems to ponder how it is that the "young, educated secular activists who initially propelled the nonideological revolution are no longer the driving political force"

DUH!

RPR and most other rational, intelligent observers noted the Muslim Brotherhood was the only truly prepared to assume the mantle of power in a post-Mubarak Egypt, and that, it appears, is exactly what's happening. Despite the crying and wailing, secular Egyptians are doomed to loose this fight. The Egyptians do not, and have never had, a culture of Liberty. I have no idea what the concept means based on the hysterical and continuous call for Democracy which is not but mob rule.

They need to study the Russian revolution then. Russia didn't get taken over by the swiftest, but by the most devious and ruthless.

UN, Soros, Jeffrey Sachs, and CIA NGO’s did the same thing in the Balkans. Clinton did a bit of bombing there as well.

It does seem that while all eyes were focused on the educated youth who did want a secular democracy of some sort and who publicly displayed religious tolerance in Tahrir Square, the MB and the Army were in a back room negotiating the future of Egypt.
