Rumsfeld: Confusion Reigns in Obama Libya Action
ABC News ^ | March 27, 2011 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 03/27/2011 9:20:15 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld used the word “confusion” six times in an interview on ABC News’ ‘This Week’ to describe the United Nations-backed military effort in Libya.

“The first thing you have to do,” Rumsfeld told ABC News’ “is recognize…the mission has to determine the coalition. The coalition ought not determine the mission.”

“If you go into something with confusion and ambiguity about what the mission is – and we’ve heard four or five different explanations about why we’re there – and that is the root of the problem. The confusion that comes from that.”

“Confusion about what the mission is, confusion about who the rebels are, confusion about whether or not Gadhafi should be left in power, confusion about what the command and control should be,” Rumsfeld said.

“The coalition that is in place with respect to Libya is the smallest one in modern history,” Rumsfeld said.

“We had over 90 countries in the global war on terror that President Bush and Colin Powell put in place. We had dozens of countries involved in Afghanistan, dozens of countries involved in Iraq. … And still, the Democrats were alleging that it was President Bush was a unilateralist. It’s nonsense,” he insisted.

Do we want more GUNS or BUTTER? This is an economic war. Its a War for JOBS, TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENTS, and to Get re-elected as he wants to get people back to work with new jobs in the defense industry when all HELL breaks loose.

AXELROD AND OBUMMER have this scripted out to not only destroy the economy when WORLD WAR III erupts but he also knows that he can do anything he wants as he only answers to GEORGE SORO’S.

haha thanks that makes it a little clearer... that both sides would ba an emeny to the US. Let them fight it out alone without our support. The Iran/Iraq war would have been just fine to have gone on indefinitely. Less radical IMAMs, terrorists and Jihad Clerics to wag their islamic war on the world.

Exactly this. To bad the whiny left would cite civilian casualties and that the US was the war mongerer and must be stopped and then the curtain opens for WWIII but if it’s going down I say hopefully we get a Palin or other strong conservative in office before it hits the fan.

He too supports the Libya quagmire.

That's preposterous, educate yourself and watch the ten minute video.

One of the biggest lies told by the MSM during the Bush administration...

I think you are exactly right. All week I have been watching (the entire middle East mess) thinking all of it was created (at least, set in motion) in 2008 when the world economy was doing very well, but the Dems needed an issue for Obama to run on. Alomost over night we were hearing about the horrible economy (even though the stock market was above 13,000 and unemployment around 5.5%).

But the truth never stopped the media from advancing their agenda ...and so they did. Problem is, what started as political fodder had the unintended consequence of being taken seriously elsewhere. Within three years the world has indeed become an economic quagmire. I will always fault the media for creating this!

it looks like the same group of terrorist thugs in both pictures...

I don't care, I'm jealous because they seem to be well-armed with actual assault rifles and rpgs, which cost about as much as a car does here.

Heheh.

I’ve watched it and Rummy consistently has refused to say (1) whether he would have supported intervention as such in the first place and (2) whether we should now withdraw from this effort. The closest he comes is the statement that “our prestige is on the line” now that “we are there.” Very evasive and slippery. As long as he evades those two questions, especially the latter, he is a supporter of this quagmire. Again, like all politicians and career office holders, he is very sly in his wording e.g. he carps about Obama’s confusion and dithering and failure but then evades a specific alternative of what he would do differntly now that we are there.
