Facebook is in talks to hire Robert Gibbs, President Obamas former White House press secretary, for a senior role in helping to manage the companys communications, people briefed on the negotiations said.
Facebook is seeking out Mr. Gibbs ahead of an initial public offering planned for early 2012, these people said.
The talks are still at an early stage and no formal offer has been made, these people said, adding it remained possible that the discussions could collapse.

Gibbs is going where the money is. Facebook is making a fortune.
He’ll help run it in the ditch.
Help manage their communication...that’s rich, he was the most incoherent Press Secretary I have ever seen.
Gibbs wasn’t terribly impressive and the new guy is an epic failure.
That said, those of you who are anti-Facebook need to get with the 21st century and establish an account.
Social media is a great way to influence your family and friends. I often post articles and news they never would have been exposed to, news that perky Katie types ignore.
“In private trading, Facebook shares have soared to about $84 billion in value since the beginning of the year, up 70% since Goldman helped Facebook raise a $1.5 billion round of financing in January.”
Facebook — isn’t that the social networking site that is going to help school principals and their minions monitor students’ comments 24 hours a day regarding homosexuality, bullying, racism, etc.?
When kids and their parents get wind of this next month(Obama bullying summit), Facebook is going into the toilet. Gibbs should start looking for a real job.

I’m also on Facebook and find it very informative. Every newspaper, tv station, tv show, politician, disease, author, movie, business, etc. has a Facebook page. If you’re interested in something, type it in FB’s search function, and you’ll find it.
The current networking sites are hostile to privacy. Check out, for example:
They couldn’t pass on such a smooth talking, silver tongued intellectual.
Uh, uh, uh, er, er, er, um, um, um,ummmmmm, ah,ah, ah, uh, uh.......
He fits right in with obama.
Unfortunately, it's also a great way to get reams of unsolicited junk email from people you don't know, and to be deluged with sales pitches for products and services you don't desire. I'm on FB, but I found that I had to scale back my public information to a bare minimum to avoid the nonsense.
Send a message of support for Gibbs.
Close your Facebook account.
On FB I also checked off every single privacy option, and I don't get bothered by e-mail.
Looks like Gibbs isn’t counting on Obama for his future.
First thing I thought about is the word “spy...”
