Cars will be banned from London and all other cities across Europe under a draconian EU masterplan to cut CO2 emissions by 60 per cent over the next 40 years. The European Commission on Monday unveiled a "single European transport area" aimed at enforcing "a profound shift in transport patterns for passengers" by 2050.

I have long maintained that human liberty, welfare and happiness would be advanced by large-scale slaughter of the governing class in at least half of the countries of the world. I cannot describe how painful it is to see Europe take steps towards that unhappy condition.

Those who would presume to rule us must never be allowed to lose their fear of the mob.

I’d say this calls for more protest drives. Of course it’s 39 years from now and Clarkson just might be dead by then and glad of it.

The European politicians, the bureaucrats, the union elite and the CEOs will still have their limousines and special parking privileges.

Socialists in Europe are no different than the Communist Party apparatchiks of the former Soviet Union.

Their entire philosophy is based on controlling the peasants through draconian laws and regulations while they sustain their high life.

There are some cities that require a special decal to enter the more bbusy areas of central dowtowns. This isn’t really new or that bad as far as I can see.

Unless they ban all vehicles using internal combustion engines, their actions will create an underground industry of people buying “passenger” trips, “illegally”, from those who transport goods commercially by roads.

All this is designed to cut the cost of China using more oil. Without intervention, China’s increased use of oil would drive up it’s price, which we can see happening. If the developed western nations that are heavy users, namely the U.S. and Europe, can drastically curb their consumption, it will allow China to buy more oil at a given market level. What China is not getting is that since they are just starting to have “the masses” acquire cars, they have an opportunity to design their transportation system to use primarily trains for commuting. This would not resemble the western nations so closely, but it would give them - and the rest of the world - a much more attractive future. We use make great use of trains for commuting to NYC, as well as buses; that’s the model they should use. If everyone who works in NYC attempted to drive their car to the city on the same day, many would not make it in before they had to start for home, as there is just not enough capacity. Since everything is walkable in Manhattan, it is far more convenient to use mass transit. For densely populated areas, mass transit efficiency is pronounced, for rural areas, it makes very little sense. For a nation of 1 billion with very few automobiles, it does not make much sense to start building automobile-based transportation in urban areas.

I haven’t read anywhere that they were renewed...

TG UK is one of my favorite shows, I watch ‘em all the time. I must say they seem to treat The Stig harshly last series...he just wanted to cash in on his popularity as the others have.

The way things are going in Europe, there won’t be an EU left to enforce this nonsense. I understand a few European countries have some money woes that is destabilizing the EU. If this edict actually does have legs, it will have one funny side effect. The Queen will have to take a Double Decker around London to make appearances and get around.

His popularity was not based on his personality or who he was as a human being. It was based on the status as ‘The Stig’. He blew it. He got greedy. I loved the trip to the US episode when Hammond shot target Stig in the back.

I know, I know...but still, May, Hammond and Clarkson made millions, why didn’t they let Stig get a little?

The guy taught SAS troopers evasive driving, by the way. He’s an interesting guy.

I was fooled when they had the fake “expose” that The Stig was really Michael Schumacher...I thought it was he for a couple of months, ‘til I was told it was a hoax!

See ya’,

Ed

P.S. A propos of nothing, Clarkson always puts down the US, calls England “free” as opposed to us, yet where in the UK could he have had access to guns like that sweet M4 he shot The Stig with?! And where in the UK could he criticize certain protected elements of the UK and not get sentenced or fined for saying those forbidden truths, unlike the US with our Bill of Rights?
