U.S. soldiers' 'kill team' killed Afghanis, used body parts in poker games: report

Rogue U.S. soldiers snipped the pinky off an Afghan teen they killed for kicks - and later used it to wage a bet while playing spades, a blockbuster expose reports.

That's one of the shocking stories in a new Rolling Stone magazine expose of an Army "kill team" that targeted innocent Afghan civilians for death.

Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs, the squad leader and main target of the Army's ongoing war crimes investigation, allegedly sliced the finger off Gul Mudin - the approximately 15-year-old Afghan that Spc. Jeremy Morlock and Pfc. Andrew Holmes are accused of killing.

"When it came time for their wager, Morlock and Holmes said they would bet a finger," Mark Boal reported MOnday in the magazine. "Then they tossed the finger that Gibbs had sliced from Mudin's body on the card pile."

Seventeen revolting photographs taken by the soldiers - including one of a severed head and another showing a pair of blown off legs - accompany the article by Boal, who won an Oscar for writing "The Hurt Locker" screenplay.

I’d watch a movie where there was a “kill squad” targeting “reporters”.

Isn’t it time to blame video games for the confusion between weird game play and reality?

When you live in the shadow of death, a corpse
is just a thing, and there are worse things than
being dead.

Sounds like another “Winter Soldier” to me. An attempt by leftist journalists to undermine our military in a time of war. Again.

There’s nothing like “innocent until proven guilty” when it comes to the press. The headline should reflect “allegedly”, and that the trial hasn’t happened. The press is always judge and jury when it comes to the military. I have nothing but disdain for them.

Okay, isn’t this getting a over the top? We are supposed to believe that U.S. soldiers threw candy from vehicles and then shot the kids as they ran out to get the candy, or ran them over. Really.

I saw the photos. And they were disgusting. But some of this sounds like piling on in order to smear all of our military. And it’s Rolling Stone.

Come on....

Unfortunately, there was a US squad, that took thousands of pictures of themselves killing innocents and taking trophies. They are now in the US facing trial. Der Spiegel broke it first.

I do not believe this article. There would have to be extraordinary proof for that claim. I have been in four deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan and have met hundreds of soldiers, airmen and Marines. Not a one of them would “snip” off the finger of a dead insurgent. They might take the pictures, but there are very few who would have the stomach or desire to keep messing with the body. And in today's hyperventilating atmosphere, all of the NCOs I meet are very conscious of how easy a wrong move or word can be broadcast to the whole world in just a few moments.

These are the photos the MSM doesn’t allow YOU to see,
but these men have to live with it.

I watched the video of the motorcycle shoot ... looks like a valid shoot to me , the afterwards they search the bodies ...they both have magazine pouches strapped on, they were the enemy.. SOP

Meanwhile the guys on the street have to make the call in a heartbeat on whether to shoot or not.

I don’t WANT to believe this article, but if there’s truth to it, it’s monstrous, and diminishes the line between what we stand for and what they stand for. It’s a disservice to all the other troops fighting honorably in both theatres.

That said, I’m not going to jump on the “string ‘em up” bandwagon either until it’s proven.

We need to hold to a higher standard. If our boys are innocent here, then let their names be cleared and let the “journalists” who reported it twist in the wind. If they are guilty, they should be charged and punished to the full extent of the UCMJ.
