Wisconsin: Capitol security costs: $3.2 million and counting
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel ^ | 3/29/11 | Don Walker

Madison - Law enforcement agencies ran up more than $3.2 million in pay, overtime, mileage, food and hotels while providing security during weeks of protests at the Capitol, according to preliminary numbers compiled by the Journal Sentinel.

The total bill is certain to go higher, largely because some municipal police departments and county sheriff's departments have not completed totaling their bills, some invoices are incomplete and costs for some larger law enforcement agencies, including the Wisconsin State Patrol, were not immediately available.

Hundreds of officers were on duty at the time, representing dozens of agencies.

Yeah, and many of them were siding with the protesters and NOT doing what they were paid to do.

Lower cost and higher security success rate option:

Hire one armed Hell’s Angel for each door.

Second low cost option:

Require SAT scores at the door...

anything below 1200 doesn’t get in.

Therefore, no “education degree” holders will get in.

Wasn’t there $7 million + in damage to the capitol building. Thugs stuck signs everywhere. Beat up the place.

[No, the $7.5 was an exagerrated # by a lot.]

Last I read it was between $500,000 and $1 million.

Exactly, a class action suit against the unions sponsoring this. Costs are increases because the City of Madison and Dane County police chiefs refused to allow their officers to protect the capitol. Bringing in officers from other areas of the state (travel and time costs) escalated the bill.
