AARP (the Senior version of ACORN) providing "free" tax service -vanity

I just heard an AARP ad offering free tax services in my area. I see this as a PR tool to lure unsuspecting seniors into their fold.

I'll also bet that unlike my accountant that tries to save me money, AARP is out to get as much as they can for the government.

I wonder what other propaganda they are handing out to those who fall victim to the scam.

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Culture/Society; Editorial; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: aarp; seniors; tax
The person on the radio said the 'consultants' are volunteers who are not tax or accounting professionals. But, they have had training from the IRS.

I think people should be warned about the agenda of AARP.

They are a wolf in sheep's clothing - the senior version of ACORN!

I am not quite to the age of a senior but when I do reach that age I will be joining AMAC, not the AARP.

I wouldn’t trust AARP as far as I could throw them.

I’ll just throw in a note that unless you’ve got highly complicated taxes (such as running a business), TaxAct can be done online for free (federal). I tried to use TurboTax last year, but couldn’t use the free version because I had capital gains, but TaxAct free version will do that just fine.

No, you don’t get advice like you would from a tax preparer, but most of that advice is either common-sense or incorrect anyway.

Many people (especially, super seniors) do not use computers. They are easily victimized by smiling helpful members of AARP.

I heard they are setting up 'day offices' at churches and senior centers.

Yep. Realized that fact after their stand on the healthcare issue. Tore up my card and when I receive anything from them I send it back with my explanation.

While you are here let’s go over your insurance. The union old farts organization is just a insurance scam.

Always send their return mail envelopes back to them empty, do your part in helping them recycle.

If the envelope is prepaid, attach it to a gift wrapped brick.

AARP is SO overdue for a Congressional investigation into its racketeering.

Is it just me or do others notice a pattern? Seems
like whenever a neutral advocacy organization gets
going the lefties tend to infiltrate and re-direct
it to attempt to further their warped goals. I think
AARP might be such a victim. The League of Women Voters
is another organization that comes to mind, at least
in some areas. Can anybody think of other organizations
which have evolved into liberal lovefest clubs?

League of Women Voters - for sure. NOW, of course. Many, if not most school boards and similar quasi governmental volunteer organizations such as; transportation boards, hospital boards, water boards (no pun intended) and solid waste and energy committees.

There is also a growing trend to create service committees and boards just to satisfy the liberal agenda. Where I live we have a climate change committee.
