Past ties between Gadhafi, Farrakhan, Obama, U.S. Muslim groups raising questions
worldtribune.com ^ | March 29, 2011

WASHINGTON — As President Barack Obama sought Monday to explain to the nation the U.S. military action in Libya which he authorized, past associations between Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi and U.S. Muslim organizations, some of which have been linked to Obama, are attracting attention.

Thus far mainstream political and media figures are not making an issue of those associations, but longtime observers of the Washington political scene are taking note. In 2009, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) asked the Libyan ruler for what was estimated to be tens of millions of dollars to distribute one million copies of the Koran to Americans, particularly government officials.

"We hope for your noble generosity in taking this project under your wing, so you will be in the vanguard, as we have come to expect of you," CAIR executive director Nihad Awad told Gadhafi in a meeting in New York. "God willing, you will as you have promised us, be the first to take the lead in this project."

The meeting was said to have been one of several between leading American Muslims and Gadhafi. They included leaders of the Nation of Islam, with which Barack Obama was associated in the 1990s, specifically in assisting with the organization of the 1995 Million Man March.

The head of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan, has attacked Obama for U.S. participation in the NATO assault on Libya.

On March 21, Awad acknowledged that CAIR solicited Gadhafi. But the American Muslim director said the Libyan ruler did not respond.

"We never received a penny from his group, from his government," Awad said.

Awad as well as two colleagues, CAIR chairman Larry Shaw and spokesman Ibrahim Hooper, met Gadhafi during his visit to the United Nations in September 2009. The three Americans called Gadhafi "the world Islamic popular leader" and then asked for Libyan funds to launch the Muslim Peace Foundation. One goal of the foundation was to distribute one million Korans throughout the United States in an effort to bolster the image of Islam.

Until 2007, Americans were prohibited from receiving money from Libya, which was on the State Department's list of terrorist sponsors. CAIR also sent a delegation to Saudi Arabia to solicit $50 million for the group.

"We want to assure you that Muslims in America are your brothers and supporters," Shaw, a southern state representative, was quoted as telling Gadhafi. "They share with you your interests and aspirations."

A minister and attorney has asserted that Farrakhan was a major influence on both Obama and the black community. E. W. Jackson, bishop of the Exodus Faith Ministries, cited Obama's role as organizer and "enthusiastic supporter" of the Nation of Islam leader during the so-called "Million Man March" in Washington in 1995.

"Obama clearly has Muslim sensibilities," Jackson, who does not claim a personal friendship with Obama, said. "He sees the world and Israel from a Muslim perspective. His construct of 'The Muslim World' is unique in modern diplomacy. It is said that only The Muslim Brotherhood and other radical elements of the religion use that concept. It is a call to unify Muslims around the world."

In 2004, Abdul Rahman Al Amoudi, founder of several American Muslim groups, was sentenced to 23 years for receiving money from Gadhafi as part of a plot to kill Saudi King Abdullah. During the 1990s, Al Amoudi served as an Islamic adviser to then-President Bill Clinton.

Nor are they likely to. Obama has more ties to terrorists than almost anyone in the US, yet the LSM and the liberals ignore them.

let me help answer that question...

That guy called the president? He aint an American, culturally, philosophically, religiously, politically... so what should we expect?

Over 20 years of Wright / Farrakhan understudy takes us right to the MB, the same guys who have already taken over Egypt.

Which is another good reason very supportive of 61 @ http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2696128/posts

Go look at 61, its a great summary

No surprise there. Why would Gaddafi send money to al Qaeda supporters who would probably funnel that money back to the Islamist rebels who tried to assassinate him in 1996?

Where is the outrage from the American people. IMO, our military families and the families of those who sacrificed in Iraq and Afganistan better get an answer ASAP! Why would the Arab League support the same al-Qaeda rebels who are trying to overthrow them in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, etc.?

When our pilot was shot down, how come the rebels served him tea instead of chopping off his head?

Maybe because the rebels are not al-qaeda?

Why would the Arab League support the same al-Qaeda rebels who are trying to overthrow them in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, etc.?

The same reason that the Arab League supported the Taliban, which used al Qaeda as its Praetorian Guard, and provided training grounds for aspiring jihadists - as long as it's not within their respective countries, it's not their problem. There's also the possibility that the Saudi King Abdullah (who likely nurses a grudge against Gaddafi because Gaddafi tried to have him assassinated in 2003) has bought off all the other Arab League members with large gifts of cash.

When our pilot was shot down, how come the rebels served him tea instead of chopping off his head?

For the same reason that Stalin accepted Lend Lease aid in WWII. Our adversaries are always glad to accept our help against their adversaries.

Note that the Saudi King Abdullah is 87 this year and is rumored to have recently suffered a stroke. I would suspect the guy’s not thinking too clearly. Maybe his last wish is to have Gaddafi killed, no matter what the long term consequences are for the al Saud family.

Now the Taliban is on Gaddafi's side.

Taliban Condemn Attacks on Libya - KABUL, Afghanistan — Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi has at least one good friend in the outside world — the Taliban in Afghanistan. "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemns this politically motivated and uncalled-for intervention and adventure by the Western countries in the internal conflict of the people of Libya..."

Do you have a theory to explain why that is?

Are the Taliban now "good muslims" along with Khadafi, while the evil Saudis are the bad muslims, because they supported the Taliban?

Is that what you're trying to say?

Personally I'm all for bombing the holy hell out of Libya and I think we should bomb lots more muslim countries too.

The Taliban is beginning to pick up on a growing theme in the media - that al Qaeda is in fact a significant element of the rebel force - and are ginning up a disinformation campaign to convince us that we should be attacking Gaddafi because the Taliban "supports" Gaddafi. It's the oldest trick in the book. We don't do that kind of dissembling much because we're Americans. Muslims will say whatever seems convenient at the moment.

The one thing that sticks out in my mind is the prevalence of variants of the burka among the female Libyan population, despite the fact that Gaddafi doesn't actually require it. The following West Point chart confirms my initial impression - that Libyan society is much more Islamist than the press either knows about or lets on:

Just as the Saudi Royal Family keeps a lid on Islamism in Saudi Arabia by parroting many of its shibboleths, Gaddafi more or less performs the same function in Libya. But to have al Qaeda actually in power in Libya would be a serious problem.

That same West Point study has a breakout of the hometowns of Libyan jihadists who showed up in Iraq:

Note that the 84% of the jihadists came from Darnah and Benghazi, both rebel strongholds that were (as pointed out in the West Point study) previously the scene of Islamist uprisings in the mid-1990's.

You don't think Gaddafi doesn't deal with Al Qaeda.

Gaddafi released hundereds of LIFG/Al Qaeda over the past two years from his prisons. Those are the same Al Qaeda that we captured on the Afganistan and Iraq battlefields and gave to Gaddafi.

Gaddafi also funds Muslim Brotherhood causes around the world.

People around here need to wise up.

We released thousands of al Qaeda and LIFG. These are are the same al Qaeda we captured on battlefields and found unimportant enough to summarily execute or simply disappear. Unlike American presidents, leaders of Muslim countries have to worry about Islamist infiltration of their personal guard. Gaddafi is still getting flak from Libyan Islamists for putting down a 1996 prison revolt by killing 1200 Islamists who killed 200 prison guards - Islamists who tried to assassinate him.

What kind of flak would Gaddafi get for killing al Qaeda operatives who had laudably (in Muslim eyes) gone forth to fight the Western infidel in Iraq? As I never get tired of reminding people - the current anti-Gaddafi revolt arose out of demonstrations staged by relatives of the Islamists killed by Gaddafi during the prison revolt in 1996 - Islamists who had tried to kill him and overthrow the regime.

Muslim leaders are not god emperors in the Chinese or Japanese mode. Muslims already have a god. His name is Allah. To a Muslim, there is no such thing as being too devout, especially if it involves killing infidels. Gaddafi's hands were tied, as are the hands of the other Muslim governments to which we have handed al Qaeda operatives captured in Iraq. Most or all have been released. Many have gone back to attacking American troops. This is why I think these individuals should be imprisoned indefinitely - to release them to Muslim governments is the equivalent of catch-and-release.

Sunni al-qaeda is also against Shiite Iran. Should we support Iran too then because al-qaeda is against them? Should we oppose the Iranian democracy movement because those dirty Iranian muslims don't deserve democracy? Should we support islamofascist Syria against their protesters for the same reason? After all the evil Saudis are probably behind the Iranian and Syrian uprisings too right?

Or is it Iran that's behind them?

Or al-qaeda?

Or the muslim brotherhood?

Maybe it's all of them!

Is this a Saudi/Iranian plot? Maybe the Saudis are only pretending to be against Iran like the Taliban is pretending to support Kadhafi? How diabolical!

This is why claims of support from various parties needs to be looked at with a skeptical eye. We need to go back to basics:

(Q1) How did the rebellion come into being?
(A1) Relatives of Islamists killed in a prison revolt (imprisoned after a revolt and an assassination attempt in 1996) staged demonstrations against Gaddafi.

(Q2) What is the background of the area from which the revolt arose - Darrah and Benghazi?
(A2) It is the scene of Islamist revolts against Gaddafi and the source of the assassins who tried to kill him in the mid-1990's. It is also the source of 84% of the jihadists who went to Iraq to kill GI's. Libya itself sent more jihadists per capita to attack GI's in Iraq than any other country on Earth.

(Q3) What happened the last time we backed Islamists against a Communist government (Gaddafi's regime, more or less) to the tune of billions of dollars?
(A3) The mujahideen graduated men like Mullah Omar and Jalaluddin Haqqani, who went on to found the Taliban with Pakistani backing, and sheltered and fed the al Qaeda terrorists who went on to stage the 9/11 terror attacks.

So WHY are we in Libya? For Obama to use the American military to put Al Qaeda in power in LIbya for a terrorist training nation to attack Europe with terrorists.

Those same terrorists will eventually travel to America to kill your family and friends. Explosions in shopping malls killing innocents in towns across America is Obama's dream about to come through.

Most Americans won't understand who Obama is and his purpose until they go to the funerals for their children who were killed in terrorists bombings in their schools.
