They've got strong feelings (re: Gallup Positive Intensity Poll)

Gallup has been measuring the "positive intensity" that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents feel for the presidential hopefuls. "Positive intensity" is calculated based on the difference between the potential candidates' strongly favorable and strongly unfavorable ratings among those familiar with them.

The most notable finding of their latest survey? Underdog Herman Cain, included in the poll for the first time, actually has a pretty passionate following.

Here are the 2012ers with the highest "positive intensity" scores.

Mike Huckabee: 26 positive intensity score Michele Bachmann: 20 positive intensity score Mitt Romney: 20 Herman Cain: 20 Sarah Palin: 18 Tim Pawlenty: 16 Mitch Daniels: 15

Some polling numbers for your brain - the article above plus:

In February 2011, Herman Cain won the on-air and online presidential straw poll for WHO, Iowa’s largest talk radio station and former home to President Reagan.

In February 2011, Herman Cain won the Tea Party Patriots (Arizona) Presidential Straw Poll at their policy summit with 22 percent of the vote in a field of 14 potential candidates.

On March 26, Herman Cain won the (Iowa) presidential straw poll at Congressman Steve King’s Conservative Principles PAC Conference, with 2 1/2 times as many votes as his nearest competitor. http://theiowarepublican.com/home/2011/03/27/herman-cain-wins-tir-straw-poll-at-conservative-principles-conference/

I don’t know, I feel very negative whenever I hear the name, “Romney.”

Herman Cain has a positive following because of the gutless wonders who are running like Romney, Newt, Pawlenty et al. RINOs need not apply. Mr. Cain is a patriot willing to tell the truth unlike the other list of smiling wimps.

I could easily support Herman Cain.

I’m still holding my fire, however. Let’s see how things develop over the next few weeks.

At least Cain doesn't look like a loser or girly man. In any other year he might have had a chance.

(It's not fair) But in all honestly, I don't think the country is going to be in the mood for another black president for awhile.

I’m finding it difficult to picture the sort of person who might have “positive intensity” for Mitt Romney.

Just who are these passionate Huckabilly followers they keep polling? If Sarah Palin isn’t qualified for the Presidency (as the MSM and a lot of FR say), then Huck REALLY isn’t. What does he know about the issue of the day: energy and economy?

Well, I respect your opinion, but frankly, the only place I ever hear that or see that evidenced is on FR.

I know several folks working on his exploratory committee across the country - Iowa, Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, Indiana, New Hampshire and of course Georgia. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. In only 6 weeks he already has 200,000 volunteers.

Look how many Black Republicans ran and/or were elected in the midterms.

The “black thing” is really a liberal issue, not a conservative one.

I think that we have several excellent GOP prospects.

Now, I may be hoping to see Sarah Palin as POTUS (if for no other reason than watching millions of "Progressive" and RINO skulls explode); but I have to say that Herman Cain does not have her negatives (The State Run Media has yet to target him).

And the point of "negatives" is not measured here. Romney might have statistically close "enthusiasm" to Cain and others-- but there is also a large segment of the GOP base that loathes him.

And think about THIS::

The msm will NOT be able to use the “race card” against Cain withouh looking totally hypocritical!!

Cain and Daniels are the only ones on this list that have a chance in hell. I feel positively nauseous thinking about Huckabee or Romney getting the nomination. Disaster.

Tim (the yawn) Pawlenty supporters have as much intensity as supporters of dynamic Sarah Palin? Somehow I doubt this.

From what little I have from and about Cain, I could support him easily, Bachman and Palin the same. Not so crazy about Huck, Romney and the others. Newt is brilliant and a good speaker but he blows in the wind, meaning he would do what ever he had to do to please those on the left. I want someone who will stand up to them. Never the less I will vote Republican in the 2012 election.

The trend for every election and candidates for this stage of the race is mostly Name Recognition. Few people know much about any candidate and tend to respond to names they have been hearing on a regular basis. But if you ask them what that candidate stands for or believes in, they have no clue.

Hard core politics wonks like the kind who post here, are not very good sources to base actual statistics on. They are rather warped strongly in one direction or the other, in comparison to the general voting public.

Which explains the outrage and disbelief that is displayed here when the general public opinion polls show the enemy (Or candidates they do not like) in the lead.

(It's not fair) But in all honestly, I don't think the country is going to be in the mood for another black president for awhile.

His color has nothing to do with it, but the fact is, {while I like Herman} he has never run for any office.

Some will say that we need a true outsider, and while he has run private companies, dealing with congress is a different basket of snakes.

He can't fire congress.

All that being said, if Herman is the pubbie candidate, he not only has my vote and my money but also my hard work.
