A reward of up to $5 million is being offered by the U.S. departments of Justice, State and Homeland Security for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the people responsible for the murder of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent Jaime Zapata and the attempted murder of ICE Special Agent Victor Avila.
The FBI, in conjunction with ICE, has established a 24-hour tip line based in the United States to process the information.
People in the United States with information are encouraged to call 1-866-859-9778. In Mexico people can call +001 800-225-5324 to give information. Spanish-language speakers can call either number.
The Mexican government also announced a reward of up to 10 million pesos for information leading to the arrest of individuals allegedly responsible for the shootings.
People can call (55) 53-46-15-44 and (55) 53-46-00-00, extension 4748 in Mexico City. Outside of Mexico City, people can call 01-800-831-31-96.
Zapata, of Brownsville, and Avila, of El Paso, were attacked Feb. 15 in the state of San Luis, Potosi while enroute to Mexico City where they were assigned to the attaché office.
The two homeland security investigations agents are believed to have been attacked by the Zetas criminal organization.

Zapata and Avila were ambushed in Mexico on February 15, 2011, as they were traveling in their U.S. government-issued vehicle from the state of San Luis Potosi to Mexico City. Mexican authorities have detained several individuals in connection with this incident and the investigation continues at this time.

Mexican bandido kills a mere taxpayer (which happens about every 15 minutes I expect) and FedGov shrugs, and says it would be racist to stop allowing Mexicans to violate our borders at will.
All American lives have value, not just those of the elite Government employees. Now, attacking and killing our LEOs is a particularly henious crime that must be stopped, but at the same time it is grating to see the stark difference in the level of concern our government shows for it’s citizens and itself.
