Okay; gotchya! They came up the Rogue system; we would get them in the Little Applegate. Never saw a live one, but now & then would find dead ones while trout fishing.

Much like salmon, the farther upriver you catch them the worse they are for eating. We catch our salmon and eels at the mouth of the river.

I have been told on good authority that eating possum is about the same as eating snot.

Take care.

I’ll take your word for it, ‘possum and armadillo are two critters I’ve never tried.

Yes, they are related to bears...so are pigs...at least that has been what I was taught. If I am mistaken, please forgive me. In any event, Raccoon does taste a lot like pork. That is a fact I know first hand.

I was wondering about that. Can one contract rabies by eating an infected animal?

I am not sure the rabies virus could make it through the digestive system.

But there are just way, way, way too many ways to get infected if you come into contact with body fluids or the carcass of an infected animal.

It’s be like Russian Roulette with five bullets and one empty chamber.

Back in High School, this earned me getting an eraser thrown at me by my science teacher:

Mr. D: “I’ve eaten squirrel, rabbit, deer, elk; I’ve even eaten bear.”

Me: “That’s a visual image we didn’t need.”

Thanks. I’ll admit to being proud of that one, and being able to say it in rhythm, instead of later, that night. :^)

That’s coon? It actually does LOOK like chicken. Or let’s say turkey, dark meat.

"The Baptismal scene that follows contains one of the prettiest Gospel hymns I've ever heard, but the film is so filled with great music, who can choose?"

Yep. "Down to the River to Pray" by Alison Krauss.

IMO, the soundtrack is better than the movie.

Thanks. I did not know the title. I’ve wanted to suggest it to the choir director at our church. I agree that the soundtrack is better than the film itself, but that is true with a lot of films that would be mediocre or worse but for the music.

woodchucks are pretty wiley creatures who are more than a match for the average nimrod doofus.

Ping for your expertise.
