Morbidly Obese Man Dies After Two Years in the Same Chair

Ohio Man Reported Stuck to Chair With His Own Waste; Later Died at Hospital

A morbidly obese man has died after being stuck in a chair at home that he had been unable to leave for two years, ABC affiliate WRTF reported and ABC News has confirmed.

The Bellaire, Ohio man, who has not been publicly identified, was a patient at Wheeling Hospital in West Virginia, ABC Affiliate WTRF reported.

On Sunday, the 43-year-old man's two roommates discovered him unconscious. They called authorities.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered that the man's skin was stuck to the chair with urine and feces. Maggots were visible, according to local reports.

"The chair was very filthy, a lot of odor to it. Going in the house, the house was not clean. The living room where the man lived in his chair was very filthy, very deplorable. It's unbelievable that somebody lives in conditions like that" Jim Chase, a code enforcer for the city, told ABC affiliate WKEF said.

Maybe I’m looking at this wrong, but the guy may have been mentally ill. And what of the two roommates? Is there any legal sanction against roommates who knew he was living in this condition, and were presumeably feeding him and giving him water?

It’s just too hard to believe that two housemates feed and water the guy, leave him stuck to a chair for two years, and don’t do anything to help him. There’s got to be more to the story.

A horrible story, but not unique. I recall others, including one about a woman whose skin had grown into the fabric of the sofa she lived on. Someone had to be feeding her as well.

Two years?

He voted for Obama then plopped his big ass in the chair and wasted away.

Sad. He's probably not the only one, though.

You’d think a person would at least be able to get their fatass into a car and drive to a grocery store once every few days. Then get up and get to a refrigerator when hungry. Then get up and go use the toilet like a human being.

If you can’t even do that, then someone is caring for you and they are partly responsible for your predicament. I know what I would do to someone like that if they expected me to carry food to them.

I’D QUIT *&^%ING DOING IT!!!

I’d make sure he got one normal sized meal every other day until he could get his own fatass up and get his own dam food.

Until I see some pictures, I am not convinced this story is genuine.

Yes, I agree. And after thinking about it, I think I might have it figured out.

He was rich and he was paying them. They did what he told them to do because they needed the money and the free place to live.

Yeah, it’s weird that they don’t mention where he got the food.

The video report is strikingly tasteless. The man is dead and ABC’s response is basically on the level of a YouTube comment.

I have a bit of trouble believing how he could physically stay in the chair for two years. Wouldn’t the pee and poop force him out? Did, did his roomies scoop it out as it oozed from around him?

I.. I think I’m gonna hurl...

If he were someone evil, like a union thug or Michael Moore, he’d get a song. This poor guy. RIP He apparently didn’t have very good roommates.

Chair probably had a hole cut in the bottom and a bucket underneath.

That’s what all these “superobese” types all have in common:

Someone to wait on them hand-and-foot.

Otherwise, it would be impossible to become that fat.

I’m betting it was pretty sordid. He was almost certainly the owner of the house and was getting disability and SSDI. The “roomates” were probably bums who fed him in exchange for a place to stay. I doubt they gave a damn about him.

Sorry if I don’t shed any tears. The first thing that flashes through my mind when I hear about these superobese rescue stories is how much these people are costing thee and me cause they damn sure aren’t paying their own way.

So did this woman, real story.

The strange case of a woman who sat for so long on a toilet seat that her legs atrophied and the skin on her behind grew around the toilet seat is prompting police to investigate possible criminal neglect charges against her boyfriend who left her there, for two years.
He allegedly brought meals to her so she didn’t leave the toilet.
Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple told local news that the 35-year-old Ness City woman’s skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to get off the pot.
“We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital,” Whipple said. “The hospital removed it.”
