Posted on 03/30/2011 8:54:26 PM PDT by tunedin
Members of Wisconsin State Employees Union, AFSCME Council 24, have begun circulating letters to businesses in southeast Wisconsin, asking them to support workers rights by putting up a sign in their windows.
If businesses fail to comply, the letter says, Failure to do so will leave us no choice but (to) do a public boycott of your business. And sorry, neutral means 'no' to those who work for the largest employer in the area and are union members."
Jim Parrett, a field representative of Council 24 for Southeast Wisconsin, confirmed the contents of the letter, which carries his signature. But he added that the union was also circulating letters to businesses thanking them for supporting workers rights.
Parrett said that since the letters were sent out, he has received threatening phone calls as well as calls from people supporting the state workers.

Pay your protection fees.
Sounds like extortion and a RICO violation to me.
Lets see how the voters in the judge election respond to outright extortion. Is this the kind of future they want?
LOL. Union workers shopping at WalMart are going to understand what Mormons in the liquor store go through. It’s okay, there’s another one twenty miles away. Oops, that’s exactly the thought the neighbors had... Well hello Julie. What are you doing here? Heh.
It’s time to start putting some of these commie union mobsters in jail. This is America! We don’t do this kind of sh** in America! Do we?
Extortion, just one more tool of a thug
check out the comments section and u have your answer...the voters will remember this.
Yeah, sure he has.
You might get a brick through your window if you don’t support the union thugs.
How do you like dem apples?
Oh, good. Now, when I see such a sign, I can pull up in front of it, get out of my truck, do a highly theatrical double-take at the sign, and leave. A fun little addition to the daily routine.
We can show our support...
Looks like the unions are pretty thoroughly doing themselves in as far as public opinion is concerned. Keep it up, thugs! And good riddance to you!
In light of what has happened, how much good did that damn union do him with all the money they pinched in the past?
If this a not a clear RICO preosecution case, what is?
Who has standing to make the charge?
Can the businesses subject to extortion file a class action suit?
That's a serious question!
They are thugs and gangster scum.
Govt Unions = Mafia
Yes, and just think of how many of them are in lawenforcment. If they'll blackmail business owners they'll fake evidence.
It would take a public prosecutor to take such a case to court. Individuals could file complaints but an indictment would have to come from States Attorney, City Attorney, County prosecutor or the federal Attorney for that district.
“We’d hate to see something ... unfortunate ... happen to your business ...”
This looks for all the world like an illegal secondary boycott, forbidden by Federal labor law.
The Attorney General ought to be all over this like a Hun on horseback. But, I’m betting on selective enforcement, or in this case, NON-enforcement.
Subtle? Non-controversial? Put up this sign supporting our agenda or we're committing economic terrorism upon your business.
Pay up or be shut down, burned up or blowed up, i thought the government won the war against racketeering, but i guess the other side won and now have control of the government.
For years, our local anti-Walmart folks have shopped at Walmart. They go late at night, hoping no one sees them. They can be seen to scuttle around quickly, making no eye contact.
And the votes by readers on the comments. The numbers against this tactic are out of sight. It’s surprising, because I follow these discussions and vote on the comments and it seemed like the unions were making some headway in public opinion recently. On this article, the sentiment is overwhelmingly against the union tactics.
Per talk radio this AM this is a Class H felony under state statute 943.30 FWIW...
