Gadhafi scion was steeped in U.S. internship when crisis broke
CNN ^ | March 31, 2011

Posted on 03/31/2011 7:31:38 AM PDT by La Lydia

The athletic young man who arrived in Dr. Deepak Chopra's classroom last month for a course in leadership was impeccably dressed in a hunting jacket, polite and unassuming...."He did not say, 'I'm from Libya.' He said, 'I'm from North Africa,' or words to that effect." But Chopra knew who he was and where he was from. "We had been informed by the State Department that he was going to be there...

His name was Khamis, the 27-year-old scion of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi who was in the third week of an "internship" that took him across the country to hone his leadership skills....

Someone with knowledge of his program told CNN his 36-day planned internship began in Houston on January 21, when he was to meet with officials from AECOM, the global engineering and design company that sponsored the program....

The next day's classes in leadership were to be followed by a visit to the Johnson Space Center, a class in traffic and emergency management....a visit to the Port of Houston....and then travel to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Academy spokesman John Van Winkle told CNN that Gadhafi was given "a standard tour" during his visit...

Gadhafi next traveled to Washington, where he met with defense contractors, including representatives of Northrop Grumman...National War College spokesman Dave Thomas said Khamis Gadhafi visited there accompanied by a State Department representative, meeting with faculty and deans...

New York Stock Exchange spokesman Richard Adamonis confirmed that Gadhafi visited the exchange...But later that day, he cut short his internship -- missing out on a planned tour of West Point... Instead, he returned to Libya to lead the 32nd Reinforced Brigade against rebel forces.

Egad. The lack of judgment shown here is so appalling I can't even truly understand it. The State Department claims it was nothing to do with the State Department! Yet the State Department was notifying everyone that he was coming.

If we had stayed out of Libya business this would be a none story, by the way since the cia, leaked they were in Libya helping AQ, the bimbo administration just announced they would be pulled out immediately.

We are doomed. This rivals having a militant Muslim psychiatrist achieve the rank of Major in the US Army while wearing a button proclaiming he was in Allah’s Army. We are too stupid to survive the ignoramuses currently in charge of our government and military.

That's one way of getting out of a bad assignment.

Hope it doesn't cost the 'good guy' his job.

Well, at least he had a VIP tour of American and its military academies before he went. Who knows? Maybe, against all odds, he was a decent young man who could have taken over the country and brought it kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

I’m just as afraid of Deepak!!! He is a MARXIST!!

The Deepak Chopra I know is very much a capitalist entrepreneur, and has run a successful leading edge high tech company for decades.

Yes, he's mad as a hatter, but smart and inspirational, a born leader, I'd do anything he asked and more, simply as a mater of trust and mutual respect.

(Of course this is a different Deepak Chopra than the pop culture guru)...

I think it’s excellent judgment - dilute hard line Islamicism and Arab supremacy through the instillation of New Age -beliefs.

Scion - la di dah. Don’t dictator have sons and grandsons and nephews?

Unless I misread, he was said to be studying with Deepak Chopra; that’s the sum total of what Chopra is into.

I think Chopra might be branching out. I haven't paid much attention to him before, but the CNN article says, ".... young man who arrived in Dr. Deepak Chopra's classroom last month for a course in leadership..."

I found this: "... offers tips on how CEOs can maximize employee performance."

Probably more snake oil.
