FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- A tough battle continues in eastern Afghanistan's most volatile area where six U.S. soldiers died on Tuesday, said Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division.

Campbell spoke to reporters at Fort Campbell on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line during a video conference from his headquarters in Bagram on Thursday and said that 117 members of the 101st have died in Afghanistan since last March. All six soldiers were from the 1st Brigade Combat Team.

The latest deaths came during ongoing combat to clear insurgents from eastern Afghanistan. Campbell said he couldn't discuss details because the operation was ongoing but called it a joint mission involving NATO forces, the Afghan National Army and border police in Kunar province.

"There were a significant number of insurgents killed in this operation, several large caches found and this operation is still ongoing," he said.

Time to withdraw from Afghanistan. There is no longer a national interest there.

Tragic news. VFW Magazine stated last fall that 30 members of the 101st ABN had been KIA since June (2010) by IEDs alone. The losses continue...

Our beloved 101st AB Screaming Eagles have had 117 soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan in the last 12 months.

God speed, Soldiers...

If Jim Bunning and McConnel would have asked for a BC or got KY GOP to pass a law asking for it - they might still be alive.

Get the troops out of the ME and let the Sunni and Shia kill each other. The will still sell oil or they can starve.

Don't worry. As soon as we have a Republican president the newspapers will go back to having a box with a number in it up in the corner of the front page and the caption, "War on Terror: US Military Casualties to Date", like they did all through the Bush years.

U.S. Casualties in Afghanistan under:

Bush - 641 (7 years, 4 months)
Obama - 789 (2 years, 2 months)

Let them.

My brother-in-law just got his finalized deployment orders for Afghanistan this week. Prayers up for all members of the 101st, the Fort Campbell community, and our armed forces during these trying times.

The spring thaw will be starting in Afghanistan in a few weeks, and it always brings an upswing of violence as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda start coming out of their winter quarters.

I know General Campbell’s father——retired Air Force Master Sergeant Ernest Campbell. He lived next door to me in “Sewer Soon City” (Suisun City, CA).

Gen. Campbell grew up in Fairfield and attended Fairfield High School. He tried to get into the AF academy but they turned the General down.

Gen. Campbell is half Japanese-—his mom worked over at Napa Airport for IASCO, the JAL pilot training facility.

Pan_Yan——your name sounds familiar. Dennis Kaw perhaps? No?

I agree. AQ seems to be either in Pakstan, or funding so-called rebels in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya.

Since 9/11, I read FReeper after FReeper warn that the extremists in AQ would wait years before their chance at power. Well, that time is upon us,and Obomba and NATO are helping fund these terrorists.’

History really did repeat itself, but instead of it taking 30 years, it has taken 10 years.
