A bill pending with the state House of Representatives would require presidential primary candidates to prove they are natural-born U.S. citizens by showing their birth certificate to the election board.
Sen. Ralph Shortey, R-Oklahoma City, amended Senate Bill 91 to add the requirement.
He says he isn't a conspiracy theorist, but questions about President Barack Obama's birth point out the need to protect against unqualified presidential candidates.
"The situation with our president has instigated this fear," Shortey said. "I'm trying to quash this fear with this legislation."
SB 91 passed the Senate on March 14 by a 34-10 vote. It is set for a House Rules Committee hearing Wednesday.
Shortey said Obama was elected, sworn in and is, in fact, the president, but if the bill becomes law Obama would have to present an original birth certificate to the state election board before he could appear on Oklahoma's presidential primary ballot in a re-election campaign.

Is this another bill/law that will be squashed? lol
That IS funny. Imagine candidates having to prove that they’re eligible for office. How weird is that?
They should add some more teeth to it. BC long form, all school records after 12th grade, etc.
this should have happened long ago.
this should have happened long ago.
Your politically biased ax need on isle 1 again!
This bill would only affect candidates in a primary. Since no one is expected to challenge the O for the RAT nomination, it would have no effect on him.
One state. It is all we ask. Then explain why Obama refuses to place his name for nomination in that state.
Odumbo will not be the rat nominee. His ratings are below street level and falling. He’ll be thrown under his own bus in favor of “statesman” Hitlery. Her numbers are the the highest they’ve ever been. Things are about to get interesting.
Sadly I think this is the way to go PR wise.
“We don’t doubt the presidents birth in Hawaii, but to stop all the silliness in the future this bill is needed.”
That should provide some insulation for weary proponents.
JMHO.
Looks pretty good so far. Passed the Senate by 77% of the vote. That's by far good enough to override a veto.
Fine with me. Stick a fork in him since he is done and make sure he's very well done by passing these state eligibility laws.
Not fair you say?
Check this out -- the infamous Lautenberg gun ban of 1998 did just that with gun owners:

If this passes (which, unfortunately it won’t)Obama won’t be able to run in 2012.
All we’ll get from obama will be the Hawaii short form certificate of live birth. Which is not a birth certificate, and does not prove he was born. Only that he is alive.
Things are about to get interesting.
Ya, a couple of years more of Obama and Hill will be vying with Helen Thomas for u-g-l-y honors.
“Is this another bill/law that will be squashed? lol”
Not in Oklahoma this time. Both the legislature and governor are conservative GOP.
Do you think this means I’ll have to prove I’m eligible to perform brain surgery before I’m hired by a hospital?
Dang!
