When that happened there was no internet and the MSM controlled the news. That has changed and I would concur that it is rigth.Reid and Obama may want to blame republicans and the left will lawyas bla,me us but the majority now know they lie.

Two weeks ago I was gung ho to shut the govt. down. After all the DBM is our only fear and they will demagogue us no matter what we do.

However, I have been giving it a lot of thought.

As I look back, and try and analyze why we lost to the Dear Leader in 08 it looks to me as if we beat ourselves.

In Fla. Charlie Crist, a deadhead Rino who is only one of many RINOs who have been creating havoc in the party for years now, made a deal with the Miami Cubans to support McCain. It was enough to swing Fla. McCains' way.

After that another rino or near rino the huckster, ran shotgun for McCain staying in the race long after he should have gotten out and assuring a victory for McCain by taking away valuable votes Romney(not that Romney is anywhere near a Palin) could have gotten. Supposedly in hopes of getting a VP shot.

Neither the Huckster nor Crist got the job since McCain has a habit of deserting people in a heartbeat for any ol' reason.

This time it may have backfired on his rino ways since we got Sarah into the picture.

Long story short, it occurs to me that the smart thing to do is not to strategically lose the 2012 election before they even happen by giving the DBM/RNC al kinds of ammo to help us beat ourselves again. They are dying to claim we won't compromise with Harry Reed and settle for a pittance of budget cuts.

Truth is whether we get 30/60/100 or 400 billion in cuts its way short of the 1.6 trillion we need.

To do anything meaningful about saving the country from sure financial collapse we need both houses and the Presidency and a balanced budget.Even then we still have to fight off the rinos.

We might as well do everything we can to assure we get all three branches rather than start a fight we can't win over a pittance of money that will not matter at all.

In addition it appears that Dingy Harry has already decided he can get major league points by doing nothing as they usually do and then claiming we would not compromise with them.

I say take anything we can get from them and then show, tell and display to the American people in an endless fashion how the dems are destroying the country and we are the only party that actually gives a dam about the country.

The msm will try to ignore it but it will become increasingly hard to do. And it may save the election in 2012 for us.

Exactly correct. We have to take away any of the potential lies that the DBM/RNC can use against us.

Hold all pay and perks and vacations from the critters until they come up with a massive spending cut,but it wouldn’t take long.

Last time, the MSM carried the water of the Dems and hammered home the “It’s the Republicans fault” meme. Things have changed. The internet, blogosphere, message boards, social networks etc...were not around then. A gov’t shutdown or a busted budget replete with massive spending...I think the choice is pretty clear.

Yep, I remember the MSM played the anti-republican rhetoric 24/7 during the shutdown. They managed to find every poor slob that was even slightly inconvenienced by the shutdown and interviewed them. To this day I can remember the story about some family that drove cross country to some national park, only to find it closed and some small business that did grounds keeping work at a federal building saying he was going to have to lay off people.

We would certainly have a better shot these days with Fox News and the Internet. But what most people don't realize is that although the shutdown hurt Republicans in 1995, what put the nail in their coffin was caving to Clinton. I still think if the Republicans would have not have caved they would have ended up in a much better position. The problem was, when their poll numbers started to head south, Bob Dole, the party head and presumptive GOP front runner in 1996, started pressuring Gingrich to back off because he thought a prolonged shutdown would hurt his chances in 1996. In reality, it was caving in that ruined his chances. It was latter revealed by insiders that Clinton would have folded if the shutdown had gone on only one week longer.

I’m not buying this. When the government shut down during the Clinton administration, even though it was Clinton’s fault. the voters still blamed the GOP.

There was only msm, no FOX, the internet was a baby and only a few of us geeks used it.

No FR, blogs, facebook etc.

You are correct, it was klintoons fault and the pubbies took the heat, but it was well groomed by the msm.

The msm hasn't changed {except it's smaller} but there are so many more sources of info that the entire country can't be brain washed by nbccbsabcnyslimeswashcompost.

Tammy Faye is in the cloakroom having a good cry because he can’t get Mitchie McConnell on the phone. Mitchie’s hiding under his desk. Yeh these guys will shut down the govt. I don’t think so. They will take their $33 billion that the Dems dole out to them, declare victory and and head out for Happy Hour. Mission accomplished.

A higher percentage than voted for Obama... but you’ll never hear the media mention a thing along those lines.

If Boo-Hoo Boner caves it will prove to me the election meant absolutely nothing and no election is going to save this country. It will be no different than the dems ramming obamacare down the Americans’ throats even though the people were against it.

BTW - regarding my posts #40-41 and Pigs parts

This is why we can't even send any sausage, pepperoni, etc to the troops - NO PORK PRODUCTS allowed in country.

I say it's the best weapon and could send the cretins running for the hills - and caves - and rat holes.

To hell with rules - should be a bit illegal for them to be beheading people

It is very simple:

1) Wealth cannot be printed into usable form. If we continue to pay past debts we owe to party A by issuing new debt and borrowing from party B, we are just digging ourselves deeper into perpetual debt;

2) There are only so many jelly beans in the jar. There is only so much wealth in the country and only so much income. We must live within our means

3) We used to be prosperous enough to afford the luxury of giving in to liberal demands for unsustainable programs. Those days are over. We must focus on funding core government functions. There will be nothing left over. If this means that we must restructure any/all entitlement programs, so be it.

4) The federal government owns over 50% of the land west of the Mississippi. We must be very hard-nosed and sell all government assets that we absolutely do not need and use the proceeds to pay down the debt, and not for the operating budget.

5) We must curtail and end the government’s ability to create operating funds out of thin air. This means we must restructure the Federal Reserve, that is once we do a complete audit so we can finally know what its real financial situation is, and how much gold it still owns free and clear. (Yes, I think the Fed still holds gold at Ft. Knox. The unknown is how much of that gold is encumbered in some way.)

6) The Federal government has curtailed oil and natural gas development. That must be reversed. Further, it has also curtailed mineral exploration and development in an area of the US that is about the size of the Louisiana Purchase. Since when is it smart to depend on China for the rare earths we need for our own jet fighters and supercomputers?

7) The internet is the new Free Press. We must never allow government to seize control of the internet or to censor net content.

In other words, the difference between 30 and 60 billion within a 1.6 trillion dollar deficit which basically is what the argument is over,is worth letting the msm/dbm/DNC get a zillion dollars worth of PR against us and potentially sacrificing our chances in 2012?

Even then there is no guarantee we will ever get any more than the 30 billion dingy has already agreed to.(or thinking about)

Anyone think that during a govt. shutdown the PR will go our way?

Dems lie. It's what they do.

The DBM carries their water no matter what. It's what they do.

Why risk an election over so little in rewards?

So, I assume you believe if Boo Hoo Boner caves the GOP will get GOOD PR from the media?

The GOP needs to what is right and what they were elected to to. Not what the liberal press tells them to do. OR scares them into doing.

Not at all. We will never get good PR from the DBM.
We just won’t get savaged as badly if we don’t fall into yet another one of their rat traps.

Government shutting down is a good thing. It’s not like they are busy reducing our burdens in any way.
