Bush warns of fallout from early Afghanistan exit (RINO attacks U.S. "isolationism")

(CNN) – Former President George W. Bush is worried the U.S. might pull out of Afghanistan too early to the detriment of that country's women.

In an interview with Fox News that aired Thursday, Bush warned that Afghan women will "suffer" should the Obama administration decide to downscale troop levels there.

"My concern of course is that the United States gets weary of being in Afghanistan and says 'It's not worth it, let's leave' and Laura and I believe that if that were to happen, women would suffer again," he told Fox's Greta Van Susteren. "And we don't believe that's in the interest of the United States or the world to create a safe haven for terrorists and stand by and watch women's rights be abused."

"We liberated Afghanistan from the Taliban because of providing a save haven for al Qaeda," he continued. "But I believe then and believe now we have an obligation to help this young Democracy to survive and thrive."

Bush's comments came the same day he and former first lady Laura Bush kicked off a two-day conference at Southern Methodist University focusing on women's rights issues in Afghanistan – an issue Mrs. Bush also championed when she was in the White House.

"Isolationism will end up subjecting certain people to horrors that I don't see how our country can live with that kind of decision," the former president also said.

The Obama administration has said that it will gradually hand off responsibilities to Afghanistan security forces as it draws down U.S. troops between this summer and the end of 2014.

GWB, why don't you do us all a favor by sitting down and STFU? You wouldn't even lift a finger to defend your own countrymen from illegal aliens and narco-terrorists yet you jump to spend your countrymen's money to defend foreigners.

and Laura and I believe

And that was part of his problem. Reminds me of that idiot Carter going on air and revealing he had discussed national/international issues with Amy, his nine year old daughter.

Yeah, real confidence inspiring, the both of them.

This is the headline at the link: Bush warns of fallout from early Afghanistan exit

It doesn’t include the editorial comment in YOUR headline and the body of the article makes no reference to RINO.

If YOU wish to editorialize, rabscuttle, then post a vanity.... or, post the article and add your OPINION in the comments.

Your attempts to steer the discussion are juvenile and insulting. Your libertarian agenda IS isolationist; this is known to everyone who reads this forum. But, apparently, you are unable to honestly articulate your beliefs.

You Paulitarians would have had us roll over and surrender to al qaeda after 9/11.

Former President George W. Bush is worried the U.S. might pull out of Afghanistan too early to the detriment of that country's women.

If W thinks we should stay until Afghan women will be granted individual rights and be treated decently, then maybe he should give us an estimate of how many centuries that would take. That culture will not significantly change how it treats women in the lifetime of anyone now living.

AMEN, and thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Libertarian idiots like rabscuttle don’t understand that freedom is accompanied by responsibility.
They want the goodies without paying the price.

Maybe we should look into partitioning Afghanistan as a way to have some kind of stability there first - something like a Daristan and a Pashtunistan. The country was mostly a creation of the Russian Empire and the British Empire’s desire to not share a border; and the people who supported the Northern Alliance, Dari speaking in large part, were generally ethnically different from those who supported the Taliban, mostly Pashtun.

Plus, someone somewhere knows where Osama bin Laden is. What’s the video going to look like if we give up on that objective?

You can say what you want about GWB domestic agenda...but after 3000 people died on Sep. 11, what was he supposed to do? He removed the Taliban.

In Iraq, he acknowledged strategical mistakes and accepted the advice of Patreus with the surge...turned the whole thing around.

I am surprised by the uncivil tone of some freepers here.

In addition to protecting the country after 911, GWB appointed Alito and Roberts to the Court — two conservative jurists who will no doubt have a say in Obamacare.

So go on. Use profanity. Call him what you will. But GWB has more class than most. And I appreciate what he did for our country.

Libertarian idiots like rabscuttle don’t understand that freedom is accompanied by responsibility.

You sound like a leftist talking about "giving back."

The Federal government--including the armed services--is solely responsible to the States and to the People, not to foreign interests and causes, no matter how noble they may be.

He removed the Taliban.

And that's where it should have ended.

It is not uncommon to use put opinion into a header as along as it does not alter the actual title.

People bash Obama all the time in titles, don't take it personal, and FReepers do it all the time to set the tone.
