The 22 Most Segregated Cities In America.
Business Insider ^ | 04/01/2011 | Gus Lubin and Christine Jenkins

Posted on 04/01/2011 4:53:26 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Racial segregation has been declining since the 1970s but it clearly exists.

For example, the average black person lives in a neighborhood that is 45 percent black. Without segregation, his neighborhood would be only 13 percent black.

The slow decline of segregation was revealed in 2010 census data and analysis by professors at Brown and Florida State University.

John Logan and Brian Stults created a dissimilarity index, which identifies the percentage of one group that would have to move to a different neighborhood to eliminate segregation -- think busing.

A score above 60 on the dissimilarity index is considered very high segregation. 22 metropolitan areas crossed this threshold.

If blacks are 10% of the population, any neighborhood that had 10% blacks would be in fact perfectly segregated.

I was in liberal Santa Barbara this week. Looks to me like all white millionaires.

Surfing and photography appear to be the main industries.

It would seem that at some point in this argument for diversity that a white person would have some rights to live among who he wants to live and not have to move every few years in able to do it.

In other words if I wished to live in an all white neighborhood it should be my right.

Call me what you wish, but what happened to that right?
Well: I know what happened to it, but is it right?

Since all of the cities seem to be ones controlled by Democrat politicians, I think we can safely put the blame on the historically racist Democrat Party.

Why not post the city list on FR?

How can this study claim that cities like New Orleans or the District are segregated yet at the same time black leadership celebrates the fact that these same cities are ‘Chocolate’ flavored and must remain so???

Perhaps these places are not segregated but rather folks feel more comfortable living among their own race.

It sounds like the writer either does not understand the difference between de facto (in fact) and de jure (in law) segregation or understands and wishes to blur the differences.

The first is legal and none of our concern. The second is illegal and hasn't been practiced anywhere in the US for over 40 years.

I hope while you were in the area, you continued just a bit north and inland to the Santa Ynez Valley and saw places like Solvang....still lily white (except for the inevitable bus staff while dining), but much more conservative.

The Voting Rights Act actually encourages segregation by trying to set up more minority-majority districts. If minorities are not clustered together, then it is impossible to create a minority-majority district.

I made someone speechless once.

I told him I thought I was a racist, because I was a white man, and had ever only gone out with white women. And I had married a white woman.

And I observed that he too was white, and his wife was white, and asked him about that fact. He had been talking up the liberal line about segregation and schools and related issues. But I guess he was caught flat footed at my self-admission to practicing discrimination in my socializing and eventually marrying.

Racial segregation has been declining since the 1970s but it clearly exists

This is a crock of crap.

Segregation was ended decades ago when the last laws were voided by the '64 Civil Rights act and Supreme Court decisions which killed things like deed restrictions.

What they are calling "segregation" is merely de facto segregation, due to personal choices and not much more. You can't even talk about "historical discrimination" as segregation because there is no real estate operation in the country that would imagine telling someone qualified to buy that they couldn't. Quite the contrary, which is what got us into the foreclosure nightmare.

This is all BS being pushed right now probably by Holder and his buddies at NAACP etc who are trying to do something unprecedented: suing entire cities for being "too white" and demanding that the city either pay non-whites to live there until some formula is met, or simply dissolving their city charter and redrawing borders to incorporate possible existing non-white areas.

It is utterly beyond ludicrous. So if Pacific Heights, the most expensive part of San Francisco, is "too white", they have to what - donate every third mansion to the dark skinned individual of the government's choosing?

This is a SCAM. Nothing but intentional property theft on a grand scale.

Another study with an agenda. New Orleans is one of the most integrated cities in the U.S. Millionaires literally live cheek by jowl with with the poorest of the black population. Many fabulously wealthy homes reside only a block away from the projects. Given that the study is completely wrong re. N.O., the entire study is probably suspect too.

Apparently you are not very familiar with using web pages (or graphical user interfaces for that matter).

At the top right of the map (and on every page thereafter), there is a button like icon ( similar to the forward button of a tape player ). You can go to the next page and view the cities one page at a time.

Here's how the icon looks like:

I have said for years that we need to apply all the anti-discrimination laws to ALL professional sports. Each sport — MLB, NFL. AFL, NBA, NHL, etc. — must have quotas based on racial makeup, gender, religion, disabilities. Talk about a revolution in the sports world! How about that Muslim, transgendered, Asian, asthmatic linebacker for the Chicago Bears, eh?
